Qatar Avios Devaluation
Hi All,
I'm not sure if anyone else has noticed, however, there has been a devaluation in QR Avios, and there may be more coming - all this without any notice whatsoever from QR.
Usually, from Western/Central Europe to either Melbourne or Sydney, it used to be 90k Avios (saver rate). Now this has gone up to 108k Avios (20% increase).
When I looked into it more, the increase has happened on the Europe-Doha side; i.e. Doha-Mel/Syd is still 70k saver rate. So this may mean further devaluation, which really sucks. When you look at flights from Europe to Doha in business class, they've gone up from 45k Avios to 54k Avios, representing a 20% increase, which is pretty significant.
If more devaluations occur, I'm sure many people will move away from QR Avios. They have already moved to putting in 'peak' and 'off-peak', decreased the number of award seats available significantly and now have begun devaluating their Avios significantly.

You may be correct. The only thing that I would say however is that on the same date I picked (24 June), Doha - Sydney was 70k Avios - which is off peak price. Wouldn't this factor into it too? I understand that peak/off-peak may be route dependent, but I can't see any evidence of this in other examples I looked at.

Well one hemisphere's summer is the other's winter. So applying different seasons to different routes would seem logical, as would any more local factors like religious holidays etc. Not having seen it before doesnt mean they arent doing it. I would be more surprised if they weren't but QR does tend to roll changes out bit by bit and test them live

Were you looking at tickets departing within the next month? I read somewhere (cant remember where, sorry) that Qatar has recently introduced higher redemption levels for last minute award bookings. The article suggested an approx 20% hike in those cases.
Caveat: Im not sure if this is actually true, as I havent had to book anything myself as yet.
