According to an interview with Finavia's CEO QR is starting in HEL. I certainly hope this is true.
You’re growing beyond your primary customer, Finnair, and attracting new airlines, like Qatar Airways. At the same time, you compete with Qatar’s own mega-hub, the newly built Hamad International Airport, for transfer traffic, just as your top customer, Finnair, competes with Qatar on routes to Asia. Do you plan to grow to compete with the world’s largest hubs?

It really is no surprise that QR is the first of the ME3 to come to HEL. The airport has been actively courting new airlines, and QR has an alliance partner there.

Strong rumours from Indonesia that QR are evaluating Surabaya.
Surprised an ME3 airline hasn't moved in - Cathay supposedly have excellent Cargo uplift, population of over 5.5 million in the metro area (OK CGK has 30+ million but does have 8-9 daily flights from QR/EK/EY/WY) and will supply a lot of workers for the area.
No comments if direct or a tag-on from SIN (doesn't QR 944 spend 10 hours on the ground?).
Anyway, nothing official from QR, and i'm sure they are regularly evaluating new routes, but just fyi!

Not a new route, but Manchester is being increased from 14 to 16 weekly effective 2nd May.
Monday and Saturday will now be 3 times daily and the new flights will use the B787. Changes are confirmed on Qatar website.
It is expected that a full 3 daily will be in use from 1st September.

Their country manager has already mentioned Medan and Surabaya to the press.
This recent press release brings back LGW into the equation which wouldn't be a massive surprise, but the rest of this intrigues me.

Another Scottish airport can only be Glasgow, but South West England?! Rules out Cardiff, so must be Bristol?! Unless of course they mean 'London' Southampton, or erm, Newquay?

BRS (Bristol) would be fantastic news! It also makes sense, as currently the only real legacy carriers flying out of Bristol are KLM and Brussels Airlines - so both ST and *A but no OW carrier (until Aer Lingus joins OW). A lot of people are BAEC members and would gladly take a service out of BRS foregoing the time and expense of getting to and from a London airport.
