New Destinations 2015

Qatar added flights to AMS, Mid June, B787 service. Finally a new destination in Europe!

How about Lisbon next?

Rumour: Rio de Janeiro, Gatwick and Sarajevo

Accra based on this artice

My favourite: Prague

This destination is mission in their Eastern Europe portfolio.

Other destinations in Europe could be DUB, LIS, HEL.

LAX, SFO, SYD, BNE still missing on their longhaul network.

Helsinki was announced in 2012 but it didn't went live ever. Any news, rumours regarding HEL?

same too with Helsinki. Was keenly awating to revisit Helsinki but no news so far.

BHX (Birmingham, GB) was also announced as a future route some time ago which would have made QR the only OW airline there. Since then AA has started a JFK rotation and EK has added an extra daily flight.

From a commercial perspective I would like to see:

i) Pusan, South Korea
ii) lots of large yet relatively unfamiliar cities in China that are underservced, such as Tianjin and Chongqing
iii) Brazzaville, Libreville, Lubumbashi and other places in africa that are underserved.

If QR operated to these cities they could go for yield like anything!

They already fly to Chongqing, albeit only three times per week.

Would they consider DUR?

Also to Chengdu, which is just a few 100 km from Chongqing. I've not yet been on the Chengdu flight, but I'm a regular on the Chongqing flight, and it's usually rather.. empty.. in both Y and especially in C. Once I had the pleasure of being alone in C :D

Only exception of course is Chinese holiday season. Then they are filled to the brim. Not sure if its passenger yields are profitable otherwise.. I guess they compensate with cargo?

Also, QR flies to Hangzhou near Shanghai. So I think QR is actually rather well positioned within China, compared to many other big airlines..

It would make my life easier if both BHX and DUR were on QR but I think in both cases they are not the most lucrative destinations in the respective countries. I've never taken the EK flight out of DUR, do you know if it is usually busy?

It does seem to be - and EK I think has recently upgraded the service to the larger capacity 777, and added a few extra services over the Christmas/New Year period. Other than Air Mauritius and the off non-stop service to Harare and Bulawayo or Maputo there really is no proper international service out of DUR, and hence everyone in DUR and the rest of Kwa-Zulu Natal uses it.

My personal wish list would be to add:
SFO
GIG
SYD
BRS (ok I know this will never happen, but one can dream)
and I would love a CPT - EZE service. Not sure if QR would have the rights to the route, but Malaysian used to fly it and it was very popular.

TheDinge Jan 13, 2015 7:58 am

SYD and maybe MFM would be revolutionary

Topolino Jan 13, 2015 10:38 am

I would add

- TPE (Emirates started to fly there from Feb 2014 and Turkish will start end March 2015)
or even better
-- KHH (that would work for sure!!!),

-- CEB (has many air connections all around the Philippines too, would b a great alternative -to avoid- Manila and Clark)
