Getting to KUL
What are the best ways to get to KUL.
The flights from SYD get into SIN too late to connect.
I could go via BNE and I've done AKL-SYD-ADL-SIN-KUL in one day before but it is tough choice of 3/4 flights on QF with points/SC etc versus MH direct as a Neville Nobody.
How does one persuade Jet Star Asia to retime their last SIN-KUL flight to offer a sensible connection.

G'day reubee, welcome to FT.
From you post you have some QF reconised status. However, that is not everything.
Have you considered AirAsiaX?

Air Asis has flights that go just about hourly from SIN to KUL - last flight is at about 11:30pm from memory. I normally use these to connect to KUL. If you are travelling with hand baggage only it's a very easy connection. If you connect through ADL to SIN you can catch the JAL flight and through check your baggage.

It depends on importance of journey time since MH offers an easy non stop to KUL, though has the drawback that coming back to sydney , their flight is overnight

QF41 departs SYD at 13.50, arrives in CGK at 18.35.
MH724 departs CGK at 19.45 and arrives into KUL at 22.45
If you can get the QF flight on points, the MH flight is around $225 (Expedia).
Expedia are also selling the QF/MH combination at around $1162. They seem happy that the 70 minutes connection is do-able.

There is only one way to get to KUL form Oz east coast on OW
You can connect with QF77 from PER which does get into SIN in time to connect with the JL SIN-KUL flight.
that would be :
SYD-PER - QF 565
PER-SIN - QF77
SIN-KUL - JL721
Earning miles OW all the way
I've done the MEL-PER-SIN-KUL trip a number of times recently and it works pretty well. If I dont need to be there the same day, I would just take the direct flight SYD-SIN - overnight at the Crowne Plaza Changi Airport, then catch a morning flight up the following day (usually on SQ, MH or MI rather than wait until the JL flight that evening)

I wouldn't recommend the JAL flight. Only one service each way each day - very late afternoon/early night. Check-in opens 3 (or maybe 2) hours before flight with no early check-in available at Singapore or KL.
The Cathay Lounge at KUL is nothing special, but I suppose is ok. Of course the lounges at Singapore are still nice.
For ~1 hour in the air, I'd go with better and more convenient timing from Malaysian or Singapore.

You could also take CX / connect in HKG.
CX138 SYD (21:55) to HKG (05:25+1) connects well with CX723 HKG (08:50) to KUL (12:30). The return also connects pretty well (CX722--CX111 or CX724--CX101). Yes it's a longer flight, but without having looked, I would be surprised if it really took much more overall time than the SYD-PER-SIN-KUL option that was mentioned.

SYD-PER-SIN-KUL takes 16hrs 40 mins
The last HKG-KUL flight of CX is at 15:05 so cannot be done without taking an overnight flight to HKG ; if taking the overnight to HKG, there is a 3.5 hour connection making the journey time 16 hrs 35 minutes.
Also, if on a cheap ticket, the 50% mileage earning on CX plus ( if having status ) no status bonus can make the earning rather poor earning a total of 3079 compared with 4646 base via PER with bonuses of 1116/2231/4461 giving 5762/5310/8922 for silver/gold/platinum
SC earning on a cheap ticket is 55 on SYD-PER-SIN-KUL vs 50 via HKG and and 40 via ADL
If FF mile earning is more important than time, then the QF81 SYD-SIN ( via ADL) and then SIN-KUL on JL is probably the best at 13 hrs 20 , but it is still a lot more than the 8hrs 30mins a non stop on MH would take
Coming back to SYD isn't so bad ( if prepared to take overnight from SIN) with plenty of flights that can get to SIN

In Sep, I'm on both legs of JL721. QF32 > JL721, then JL721 > QF10 a week later.
