I wouldn't recommend the JAL flight. Only one service each way each day - very late afternoon/early night. Check-in opens 3 (or maybe 2) hours before flight with no early check-in available at Singapore or KL.
Last year I was travelling from SIN on the return of JL721 (JL722 KUL-SIN-KIX). I was able to check in for JL722 a few hours before 721 had arrived in SIN. About 6 hours before my flight.
In Sep, I'm on both legs of JL721. QF32 > JL721, then JL721 > QF10 a week later.
