I've had this same problem a few times in the past and each time have just booked with MH... the price saving on average has been at least $700 on each occasion. Oneworld AU to KUL - forget it - There are cheaper and better options.

I did ask, that post was in July, I sent a letter to JetStar around that time. Today 5 months later I received a reply dated Dec 14 that could best be described as a form letter!!!!

Since then I have gone AKL-KUL twice on MH direct. Whilst 1 direct flight beats 4 flights in a day or an overnight hotel stop in SIN, a mid-morning SYD-SIN service would allow connections onto a few evening Jet Start Asia services to various Asian ports.

Personally, I find it difficult to comprehend that QF cannot sustain operations to a range of Asian Business centres such as KUL and PEK (especially PEK - no flights to the capital of Australia's arguably most important trading partner?!?), in addition to routes such as MEL-NRT. Maybe we can see the introduction of such routes in the future?
