The flights from SYD get into SIN too late to connect.
There are a lot of airlines to choose from; Qantas is not the most conveniant airline for all destinations. SYD-PER-SIN connects in time for the JL flight iircor mebe overnight in SIN and continue to KUL in the morning is another option
It depends on importance of journey time since MH offers an easy non stop to KUL, though has the drawback that coming back to sydney , their flight is overnight
