Having said all that, I do appreciate being addressed by name occasionally (but not "Sir").
Addressing by "Sir" is an appropriate form of address or , if they remember the name, "Mr Noble" . What I do not find acceptable are phone banking/foxtel et al who think it is ok to address my by my familiar name without my permission.

QF now address all Plats and CL's by name as part of the boarding process. I think this is great for a variety of reasons but the primary reason is the boarding process is your first interaction with the crew that will be looking after you and my mum always said, first impressions count.

For this reason alone, I make sure I hold my boarding pass so that the CSM can see it clearly and have time to read it. As I approach, I will look to see the crew members name and then try to greet them first and ask them how they are first. I then listen to the answer, rather than just grunting and walking off like so many before me.

What does it cost me? Nothing! How does it make me feel? Good! So why not try taking your grumpy pants off and putting your happy face on the next time you fly? You never know, you might just enjoy the experience a little more.

Going OT here but I do need an answer.
If I upgrade my mother from cattle to business, as a Plat, can she use the F lounge or she'll have to settle for business... assuming that she travels alone.
Cheers

I think I liked having crew calling me Mr Wong or my given name... Sir is ok... can't see the problem...

And then there are those who know the correct title and call you "Sir Noble"

Never really understood why... but where or is it un-written law that gives her my status when I book an upgrade... or something...

Most airlines, and Qantas would be the same, have two methods of blocking seats, a "soft" block and a "hard" block, and I'm surprised none of you have ever heard of it, given the ammount of travelling you appear to do.

She won't be able to use either lounge unless of course she gets the upgrade. If she does get the upgrade, she will only have access to the lounge corresponding to the class of travel she got upgraded to. If you are travelling with her, then of course she can get access to the F lounge as you are a WP and entitled to bring her in as a guest regardless of what class she is flying that day.

Actually, I know the difference. Every time a seat has been blocked for me (as per this thread) I have been advised that the block will no longer exist if the flight fills up, but it would be among the last to be allocated; that, I guess, is a 'Soft Block'.

Purchasing a seat beside you for more room (as discussed here in a Thread in the Australian Frequent Flyer Forum: Paying for Empty Seats) would result in a 'Hard block'.

I wasn't aware of that, and I haven't experienced it (yet). I think they do address you by name if you're in business class (later, during food service).

Good heavens, what a rigmarole!

All I said was I don't like being called "Sir" because it's too stiff, it's not friendly--it's not the way Aussies generally express friendliness. I'm happy with a quick smile, maybe a "G'day" or "Hi" or whatever (which is what they get from me, by the way, despite your inferences). That's how the Yanks do it, and it's good enough for me. Why does this have to be so complex?!
