It's a problem in much of Central and South America unfortunately.

For someone crediting this to Aeroplan (Air Canada), would the longest route be the best option? Does anyone know what the longest route option would be?

However, looks like the far has gone up. For example, the SJU-YTZ link in the first post now prices out at $549 for a Standard ticket & $659 for Flex. So may no longer be worthwhile.

This is definitely an error fare. AC seems pretty bad at getting their booking codes correct; should be booking into G but it has a misplaced override rule to book into C if available.

IIRC they are pretty good about honoring mistakes (lots of fares mistakenly booking into R), but I wouldn't expect this to last.

Also note these are all one-way fares and can be constructed as such if desired.

Thanks! I agree, this is definitely an error, but Air Canada usually honors their mistakes, so I didn't say much about that.

If you're flying somewhere in Eastern Canada, find a connection in Houston (IAH), then IAD/EWR/YUL if possible. As I stated in my first post, these roundtrips are technically two one-way fares, so it might be easier to look at one-way flights, then when you find a flight option in each direction put it together and book as a roundtrip if that's what you want.

If you are mileage running the cost per mile is lower on flights between YVR and SJU so the cost per SQM will be lower.

If looking for max PQP, I presume we're trying to minimize the UA mileage traveled as much as possible here even though it's on 014 tickets, correct?

Yes, UA metal will credit based on ratable fraction of base fare, regardless of ticket stock.

It has been a while since I credited flights to United. Wouldn't United credit based on mileage as a special fare? - Earning Miles on United Flights (a C fare is 100% plus a 50% cabin bonus)

How does United know what the base fare was?

No, distance earning on United metal only applies to bulk/consolidator fares.

UA receives allocated fare information from AC since they are operating the flight. I don't know the exact data pathway, and the amount is very arbitrary, but it will post some fraction of the base fare component used for those coupon(s).

For those looking to do this in the next few weeks, I'm seeing SJU-EWR-YYZ on UA metal (but booked via AC) with the first segment on a 767 in lie flat business class for $260 one-way. Last available departure date seems to be 4/27 though.

YVR - SJU on Google Flights with all AC $629 as Cruser stated.
There seems to be also a YVR-YYC-YUL-SJU that direction for the same price on all AC metal as well, that is if you want the extra PQF.

Has anyone been able to ticket this? If yes, how? No luck with Matrix to AC or Expedia.

I didn't ticket it, but I clicked through from Google Flights to Air Canada.com and it seemed to get all the way through to final payment without issue.

I can confirm this. My friend booked SJU-ORD-YYZ and it shows 2 PQF and 186 PQPs for those 2 segments.
