This has increased in price slightly to $1915-$1918, but is still valid for 12/1/17 - 12/25/17 & 5/24/18 - 8/14/18. Books in PE (R) ORD-HKG & PE or J (R or I) for HKG-MLE.

Flew CX twice in PE. Got upgraded with no status last year. Then no upgrade in June as AA ExPlat (a quarter of the biz cabin ended up being empty). Seems more behind the scenes. Curious if others have more to share

Here's a link from ORD: https://goo.gl/flights/kbN2

I'm also curious about the upgrade from PE to J. Here is a thread discussing upgrades:

Amex International Program (now $1600)

So just called Amex and with the partnership.... and it brings it down to ~ $1654 + $39 ticketing fee.

Same deal... Prem Econ JFK to HKG and Biz on HKG to MLE. Since it's prem econ/biz it qualifies for the discount. Only a $100 cancellation fee.

If booking through Amex using cash (not Membership rewards) is this a special fare or a Cathay Fare? If special... what does prem econ equate to in EQD and EQM on AA? I apologize this is answered elsewhere but hopefully this find will excuse my laziness of not a comprehensive search.

ADDENDUM... Got the receipt... R and I class... so on AA Special Fare Chart EQM x2 and EQD 25% and 20% respectively. Weird that R >> I.

Prem Econ is R which is 25% EQD, 2X EQM and 125% RDM
Biz is I which is 20% EQD, 2X EQM and 100% RDM

So... ~$1689 all in....

$4,025 + $1,196 = $5,221 EQD
32,300 EQM + 11,960 EQM = 44,260 EQM
20125 RDM + 5980 RDM = 26,105 RDM

$1689 x 5 = 8,445 Membership Rewards

Is my math right?

The base fare for ORD-MLE and JFK-MLE on CX in PE are $1644. The fare basis is RHICHIR (ORD) and RHINYCR (NYC). Since AMEX quoted an amount approximately equal to the base fare without taxes, I would assume it's a special fare.

The fares are for PE, and I thought someone explained earlier in the thread why it allowed booking into business?

Certainly not "anyone." I was upgraded on 2 of 4 legs this past weekend. Op-ups are subject to need. If they need your seat in PE and there's room in J then there's a good chance for a bump.

Flew CX from ORD this year in PE on AA codeshare. Both wife and I are EXP. Out of ORD they wanted well over $1000 each to pay for the upgrade and not able to pay for the UG HKG-ORD. I was told at check in that we can only pay to UG if on CX ticketed flights. Also she said they UG their Marco polo members first the OW by status.

Thanks for posting the AMEX quote, been trying to figure how useful that new perk is for PE. Saved roughly $200 correct?

In terms of special fare vs Partner charts by understanding is special fare only applies to AA flight numbers. Regardless of how a CX or any other partner flight number is ticketed it would follow that specific parter chart.

I assume you booked the CX-coded flight (not an AA codeshare), correct?

If so, special fares only apply to certain AA coded flights. There's no special fare table for partner airlines. Your CX flights will earn based on the normal CX table.

JFK-HKG-JFK in PE (R)
16,144 miles
24,216 EQM | 3,229 EQD | 16,144 RDM | 19,372 RDM Exp Bonus

HKG-MLE-HKG in J (I)
5,952 miles
8,928 EQM | 1,488 EQD | 7,440 RDM | 7,142 RDM Exp Bonus

TOTALS:
EQM: 33,144
EQD: 4,717
RDM: 23,584
Exp Bonus: 26,514

CX: JFK/EWR-MLE $1900 DECEMBER; mixed PE and J

I think this is a pretty great fare for mileage / status run, or just a vacation. Several dates through the end of year for about $2300, but only about $1900 in December!!! You can stay for a day, or two weeks.

You get PY on NYC-HKG leg, but J for HKG-MLE. If you book from EWR you should fly on A350. PY legs book into R, which you can upgrade with Asia Miles to J. However there are issues with getting AA credit after you upgrade, because it changes it to U fare. Several threats on that around here.

Earning on AA: 33145 EQM, 4717 EQD, and 58788 RDM if you are EXP

And you get to use those awesome CX lounges in HKG, or you can even pop into the city if you want to with longer layovers available.

This would also be a good Alaska earning opportunity as well.
