I don't think it's practical to get rid of the back rooms.

However, there is a solution: Put a bunch of cameras in there so there's no chance of taking something without a camera seeing it. This need not cost a ton of money, the cameras would simply record on a HD, no monitoring other than spot checking to see that they are still working.

If something disappears from baggage you then go over the relevant files and find the thief.

The same thing should be done at the checkpoints.

Or just screen the screeners and all other airport workers coming in and going out.

Might keep some malcontent from bringing in something really dangerous to an airplane.

If a casino can keep its back rooms secure, you'd expect an airport to be able to do the same. Of course the casino has a vested interest in holding on to its cash. Conversely, an airport, the airlines and the TSA could care less what gets stolen out of your luggage. The airlines consider it a cost of doing business, the airport can blame the airlines and the TSA, let's not even go there. Only by public embarassment can any of these parties be motivated to do anything. And then only long enough for the spotlight to go elsewhere before reverting to old habits.

I would also add that the uniforms should be jumpsuits with no pockets and no personal belonging (ie backpacks) allowed.

Might be nice if they were color coded to the alert level. Spandex, with no fasteners- even better- might even be an ugly reminder to everyone about the sacrifices we all make for safety's sake.

Yes, especially if the jail is built on a concrete slab.

I think that is a perfect solution.

The screeners screen screeners only. An industry has been created and all the regular passengers can go out about their business without being hassled.

Watching screeners being screened has to be be better than karaoke at airports. Without a doubt better than the RCC.

Nah, the jail should be built over a shark pit with a thin balsa wood floor.

Nah, one of Sheriff Joe Arpaio's tent city jails...in the Arizona desert...

One thing about the original article...people are still placing their electronics in checked luggage?

Yeah, I bet Joe is doing their job for trying to stop bring illegal Immigrants entrance into USA. He will try to get roundup all the illegal immigrants out of house. He will work harder to get best he can do that for our citizen. He will try to get more toughest Immigrations laws. They can't be admitted into US without visas. He have to try to get more deputy need to be stepped it up on the streets. They are faced to be deportation out of USA. Then don't come back into USA unless must to bring the visa waiver.

I'm sure most don't - but even if Mom and Pop Smith from Blowback, Kansas put it in their bag, they sure don't deserve to have it stolen by these little scoats.

Never mind about electronics - it's a short hop to stealing a designer clothes that catch their eye, someone's nice shoes, duty free items (perfume etc) that someone had to check due to the war on water etc.

.......or inserting something that could bring the aircraft down.

Remember, all airport workers are trusted, unlike mere passengers, and go mostly unscreened.
