Relax; TSOs are not going to be required to enforce the size limits.
(Personally, if I'm the ticket checker and encounter a Kettle toting wayyyy too many/large bags, I'll direct them upstairs to the baggage check, and set them up so they don't have to go through the entire line a second time. However, they're under no obligation to heed my advice or accept my assistance!)

. now just wondering who will be enforcing it

At the entrance (right before security) to the UA gates at LGA last Sunday, before you had to show your ID and BP to the TSA ossifer, there were two people JUST checking BP's AND enforcing the two-bag rule. More than two - no go.
I have not encountered any gate screeing at the following airports since this was initially posted: ORD, MSY, LGA, CMH, IND, DTW, MKE, SFO, PHX, DEN and LAX.

And I've had to point it out to one ramp agent for UA who felt it necessary, when I gate-checked my rollaboard for a EMB-120 flight, to tell me I had more bags than I was allowed (the "extra" was a very small--purse-sized, in fact--camera bag with two small lenses in it, on that particular flight, in addition to my laptop bag + 18" rollaboard).
But I carry a printout from the FAA site and one from the TSA indicating the exemption, and have never had to show it (yet).

Would you be able/willing to post links to those exemptions?
Thanks!

Care to give a link to this policy? It would be quite helpful if you've already found and printed it out. But of course, even if the TSA and FAA allow it, the airlines themselves have final say.

Don't need to. They've already been harassing folks in a couple of airports I've been through.
If they can think of a way to make our lives more miserable, they will.
Oh, and news is that AA is going to charge folks for gate-checking items.

As for the airlines, yes, they can restrict things further, but IME they do not. (Other than one UA ramp agent complaining, not a single UA, US, or DL agent has ever even let out a peep to me about the extra bag the times I've had it with me.)
I suspect this is because they know they don't want any liability issues for checked camera gear, etc., which if they don't let be carried-on may come up (I know they exempt themselves from that liability, but I bet the government would have something to say if they in effect forced pax to check said gear, then denied liability for same).

Saw some TSAers giving people the gloved treatment at C gates for the DL flight from DEN-ATL at 6:15AM today.

When will this madness stop? Not sure how one is to react when stopped again at the gate for a check at 5:45AM on a Sunday morning!

I think a middle finger is appropriate (not if you want to fly, though).

Prove to me that being detained 25 minutes makes one safer to any degree and I might stop LMAO and send you a drink chit or some O'Reilly Cash.
It is a fact that the only real terrorists airside at US airports today are american soldiers either freshly back from murdering, raping, torturing or stealing from innocents in Iraq and Afghanistan. A review of the definition of terrorism will allow you to independently reach this same conclusion.

Oh, and don't forget about the ones that threw a dog off a cliff...
I'm SO sick of hearing men (and maybe women) bash themselves on the chest and talk about how American they are because they are/were in the military. Ok - thanks for your help when you're needed! But you chose to do it, just as I chose not to (and I can't anyway even if I wanted to - thanks homophobes!). I have utmost respect for the men who were in WWII, Vietnam, and Korea...but this current thing?
I don't put military guys/gals in first class if they is on open seat unless the captain or a first class passenger says to. They do a job, risk their lives, and get paid for it - so do I, just in a different way. Does that make me un-American?
<Sorry for the rant - I'm sure I'll take some grief for it, but it's just driving me up a wall...besides have you seen most of the "kids" joining now? Dumb as rocks and 90% southern..how's that for a stereotype?>
I treat TSA nicely, and expect the same. Unfortunately, 75% of the time we as crewmembers are treated no better than anyone else, except that they don't rummage through our bags without good reason. ABQ seems to have some of the most hateful workers for no apparent rhyme/reason.
To bring back gate screening is asinine. What's the purpose? What suddenly changed that we have to regress instead of advance?
