I had made a similar suggestion some months ago, including the airport and terminal, but it fell on deaf ears. Perhaps it can be reconsidered by our membership.

The only airport I can remember even looking to see what was in the baggie and what wasn't is Kansas City. They are much stricter on the issue here than most of the TSA airports (yes, we're one of the ones with private screeners). Having said that I don't put my solid deoderant in the bag and they never make mention of it.

All other airports I use except maybe one of two don't require removal of the baggie from your carry on during screening. Heck at Miami I even forgot about a 3/4 full bottle of water in the bottom of my bag, it didn't raise any eyebrows surprisingly.

I got a 0.5 oz solid deodorant as a free sample. I use it only for travel and expect it to last for a long time. How much deodorant do you need? Even the large size is only about 2 oz.

At IAD on Saturday, they re-ran my baggie, which had a whopping total of a 0l.5 fl oz container of Afrin in it due to a cold. I couldn't believe they actually took the baggie out of the bin and re-ran it through the x-ray!

That said, I don't put my solid crystal deodorant in the baggie, either, since it's not a liquid or gel, and have had only one TSO comment on it (at BWI). My wife had hers confiscated at a IAD, though.

Same for me. And also varies across the world despite having same liquids & gels rules.

Here's an idea:

Carry a simple, elementary-school level explanation of what constitutes 'solid', 'liquid' and 'gel'. If they get uppity, show them the definition.

That's throwing gasoline into the fire.

Screeners will not hesitate throw the book at you, including throwing you to the LEOs and make your experience a nightmare.

Again, the best thing to do is remain calm, get the screener's name and ID number off his or her nameplate and file a written complaint to the FSD and airport station manager.

TSAers do not like getting extra attention from management. Them being hawked by management will go much, much further and have a more lasting effect than any piece of paper you can produce.

Not to mention, if the screener has had trouble following the rules your complaint would be added to his or her file.

So you are saying these highly trained personnel who stand on the front lines of our fight in the war on terrorism are retaliatory and vindictive? (Tongue is planted firmly in cheek).
