Owl Gore in Security Breach
http://www.newschannel5.com/global/story.asp?s=6165069
Former vice president Al Gore was involved in a security breach at the Nashville Airport when an American Airlines employee led him and his entourage around security, a clear violation of policy.
"There are no exceptions. Everyone must go through security," airport spokesperson Lynn Lowrance said.
Wednesday at the Nashville Airport, Gore arrived with two others and airport. Sgt. Gary Glover with airport police waited for his arrival and to go through security.
"He made his way to security, waiting for him to come through the check area, then he saw him pop up past security in a sterile area," Lowrance said.
Gore and his group bypassed the metal detectors, a blatant security breach.

Have to give AA the blame on this one
Gore didn't do anything wrong. This is an issue of the most useless idiots in America called the TSA. He "saw him pop up" past security and they want to put this on AA or Gore? THEY are responsible for security not Gore and AA how did he "Pop up past security" if they were doing their job?
It was the AA lady's fault. From the article:
"The airline employee took Gore down an elevator and then through a secure door. She ran her security card through the electronic lock a total of three times to let Gore and his two colleagues pass through the turnstile one at a time."
Sgt Glover of the Nashville airport police (not TSA) had been told to expect Gore's arrival, and was waiting for him at the checkpoint. After he noticed him in the sterile area it became apparent that a breach had occured.
Sorry to deny you that tall drink of TSA Hateraid, but this was clearly the fault of the AA agent that took the former VP down the elevator and through the employee entrance.

I'm not saying Al Gore did anything wrong here. The article just said he was involved, not that he was responsible.

Good question. If the employee is authorized to use that entrance there has to be rules against using her badge to let other unauthorized folks through. She could have just as easily let someone way more nefarious than Gore through.

Stop passing the buck, if security is that important then ALL people should go through "security" there shouldn't be back doors. The TSA screwed up again and they are passing the buck, nothing new for the idiots.

If you breach security, aren't you automatically arrested?
Apparently, some people get a wink, a nod, and a chance to pass through correctly:

There are all kinds of things Presidents, VPs, and other government officials are allowed to do that you and I are not allowed to do. Ours is a government of men, not laws, after all.
That being said, this particular situation isn't a big deal, and Al Gore should not have been screened by the TSA any more than any other non-threatening person should be... which is to say, not at all.

I feel so much safer!!!! What a waste of time and money. At least we know that Al Gore won't be a security risk while he sits above tons of un-screened cargo.

Does he still get secret service protection? If yes, aren't they armed?

A person being escorted by an armed federal officer is the only person allowed to bypass security.

The officer asked them if they went through security, and when they said they hadn't, they were taken back and fully screened. Gore did not complain and cooperated fully, Lowrance said.
"Everyone goes through security," she said of the employee's action. "It showed bad judgment. They were trying to be helpful, maybe too helpful."
The employee will be required to take an airport security training course again, Lowrance said.
