My wallet stays in my pocket or IN MY HANDS. They are welcome to call a whole entourage and take all day to analyze it, while it remains in my possession.
In hundreds of flights, I have only been unable to mediate this at FRA, where the agent was comfortable with me putting it in my locked bag and rescanning the bag.
Otherwise, I have to be persistent, and assure them that I am as concerned about security as anyone else, but I am always allowed to proceed.

I cringe every time I see a flyer put his wallet/money clip/etc. in a bowl and not even watch it go into the x-ray machine. I have counseled more than one to put it IN something so that it can't easily walk off, as I have SEEN one do.

It should be common practice. Remove your lap top, and place your wallet & money into the empty space and zip it back up.
Everything gets dumped into my case for x-ray.

My wallet always goes into my hard shell Samsonite attach case, which has a built in combination lock and it is always locked, along with my carry on whenever these items go through the x-ray machine at the checkpoint.
I have never been asked to open my case and take out my wallet for inspection, and if ever requested, I will ask for an LEO to be present to make sure none of the screeners try and steal anything from my wallet.
I do not trust any airport screeners, no matter how many stripes they have on their shoulders one bit, as far as I am concerned they are all potential thieves, because its almost a weekly occurrence now that we read about airport screeners being arrested for stealing money at the checkpoint.
Handing a wallet with money sticking out of it to a screener, thats just too much temptation there

I always go through security with everything "of value" locked up in my two wheel 22" roller carry on. If they want to examine the contents, I am happy to oblige, as long as it is in my presence.

Bingo also my SOP. Watch, wallet, belt, BP and cell go into the space vacated by the laptop. Bag then locked with combination lock. Unlocked on the other side of the 'border' once the random and variable games being played that day have concluded. Passport card for ID.

What can happen inside a machine where a human can't fit and where you see your bag going in and then you see it again coming out on the other side?
I usually put my laptop, cellphone and wallet on a tray, the bag behind it, I'll put them in, walk through the screening and then on the other side I put cellphone and wallet back into my pocket and laptop inside the bag. It takes me 20 second from the beginning to the end...

Not all of us get through quickly enough to meet the bag on the other side. For those of us that do not, the locked bag can not be searched until they ask to open it.

I have seen pax trying to take things off the belt that belonged to other people (specifically me). Don't know if it was purposeful or accidental.

Wallet nonsense comes to Boston. Everything out of the pocket, including the wallet. Doesn't matter if you are going through the NoS or WTMD. B Gates.

Same here. After my very first flight in 2003, I started putting everything except my ID and boarding pass inside my roll-aboard before I go through security because it's just easier to keep up with my personal items that way. I always assumed airports placed seats or benches just outside the security lanes so that travelers would have a place to sit down and do this after getting their boarding pass.

Doesn't happen in Canada. When you go into the scanners they specifically tell you to hold your wallet above your head with both hands if it is still with you (and not in your carry-on, if any).
