FWIW, did not notice any increased scrutiny at TSA checkpoints yesterday at LAX and PHX and this morning out of MIA. No extra police presence and certainly no military at least at those airports.

I doubt TSA is going to go away. It's so established and it's big. You need to be able to find jobs for all these people if TSA and DHS are dissolved, and with the economy like this I doubt it would be easy. Perhaps when the economy is doing well.

The 4 guys ended up on my flight and I'm 95% sure that they were FAMs due to a number of factors. 2 were spread out in Business, one of them across the aisle from me. The other 2 were were spread out in coach.

I'm wondering if it's normal to have 4 on a TATL or were they able to up security that fast?
It's happened often enough before.

FAMs being moved around so as to ramp up positioning for flights taking off from Europe and heading to the US again shouldn't be a shock.

More travel expenses to be paid.

The problem with this report is that it requires blind faith in the US government. They don't have a lot of credibility with me at the moment. They have been caught in too many lies. Also what was with all those explosions if it was just a battle involving some automatic gunfire with a few guys? Even if Obama really is dead I detect the whiff of a large amount of manure in this story. US government = pathological liar. They cannot open their mouths without lying. In the interest of national security of course.
I detect a deather. You also don't believe a man landed on the moon do you? Please adjust your tin foil hat accordingly.

Why?

Let them find their own jobs - if they are capable.

There's been at least some pure disinformation flying so far... so skepticism is quite healthy at this stage.

For example: One of the circulating photos of "dead Osama" is a fake.

Long-time players of Spot The FAM™ know that having more than two on a flight is not unusual. Interesting that they don't seem too concerned about blowing their cover, though. Is this something like keeping your Kippie Bag in your carryon, and nobody really cares?

When I am made king, the DHS will be dissolved and the TSA put under control of the FAA. Screening jobs will be carried out by private sector workers. Current TSA front line workers will be allowed to apply for those jobs, although I'm sure many will not be happy in that environment of accountability.

It seems the only real threat from OBL's death is computer viruses and internet scammers.

Nappy and Pissy Already Have Things Under Control

Pissy's statement was really profound:

"TSA continually evaluates the latest threats and screening measures which are implemented based on the latest intelligence. As always, passengers may notice a variety of security measures at U.S. airports to include the use of physical bag checks, random gate screening, explosives detection technology, canine teams and behavior detection officers. We ask the traveling public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the authorities."
From: TSA Statement on Airport Security Following the Death of Osama bin Laden

Nappy commended her boss' decision. I sure he's sleeping well knowing this:

Statement by Secretary of Homeland Security Janet Napolitano on the Death of Osama Bin Laden
Release Date: May 2, 2011

For Immediate Release
Office of the Press Secretary
Contact: 202-282-8010

The death of Osama bin Laden is an important success not only for the United States, but the entire world. Our efforts to combat terrorism, however, do not fixate on one individual, and we remain completely focused on protecting our nation against violent extremism of all kinds.

We remain at a heightened state of vigilance, but the Department of Homeland Security does not intend to issue an NTAS alert at this time. I have been clear since announcing NTAS in January that we will only issue alerts when we have specific or credible information to convey to the American public. However, our security posture, which always includes a number of measures both seen and unseen, will continue to respond appropriately to protect the American people from an evolving threat picture both in the coming days and beyond.

I commend the President and offer my gratitude to the men and women who defend and protect our nation at home and abroad, whether they wear a military or law enforcement uniform or serve as one of thousands of unsung heroes in the intelligence and homeland security community. It is true that we are stronger and safer than we were on 9/11 not only because Osama bin Laden is dead, but because of the unflagging dedication and hard work of so many people throughout the world committed to freedom and security.

60,000 A.S.S.es and the DC staff fired today wouldnt even cause a blip on the unemployment numbers.

We could return to the late 1990s--or any other era of "Pay me what I want or else I'll go across the street and get paid more!"--and the current TSOs would have a difficult time finding a job.

Actually, I'd say, a difficult time _keeping_ a job, given the way they behave on the job.

FWIW, where did these TSOs work before being hired by the TSA? I can't imagine even McDonald's willing to hire someone like that.

"The roots of Osama are embedded deeply into the fabric of our society and we are mindful that his legacy lives on," said Lauren Stover, director of security at Miami International Airport.

Police officers will be present throughout Miami International Airport with their canine units. A lot more random inspections at security gates will be conducted, said Maria Levrant, a MIA spokeswoman.
Translation: no one in authority has the balls to say "enough is enough", and there is not a politician who is not scared s$@tless of an attack happening on his or her watch and not being able to say, "Well, we tried to prevent it, and we'll have to try harder now."

The media is feeding the paranoia in DC. WTOP radio (most listened to station in DC) has been running lots and lots of "see something, say something" news stories, along with interviews of Johnny Peepants. Including the obligatory "if it makes us safer" and "we can never be complacent again".

Nothing like having officialdom exploit the event for their benefit.

As promised....

Based on the news, goalie-parents decided to arrive at Logan earlier than normal so they arrived at 9:15am for an 11:15am departure.

No noticeable lines for security but there was an over "abundance" of blue and an larger than normal Boston PD and Statie presence but that was it-just a presence (and no one [n.b. no one] was being sent thru "our friend"])

Well, at JFK they have more people in fatigues doing runs to/from the Airtrain stations at the airport terminals themselves. A ridiculous show of the stupid variety akin to running police sirens around Manhattan to "scare" terrorists out of being terrorists.

It was inconvenient to claim to dump the body in the sea, but it was practical to do so for those not wanting to enable the creation of another shrine to perverted approaches to attain security (which is what OBL was pursuing in his own twisted ways) when there is already such perverted OBL memorial in the form of DHS/TSA.

The explosions were a result of a rather routine approach to dealing with downed US equipment -- destroy it so that the electronics aren't recoverable. We lost a helicopter there, and thus it had to be blown into even further pieces. The house used gas cylinders for cooking and perhaps even for heating, although nothing has yet been mentioned about whether those exploded or not.

If OBL were not confirmed to be incapacitated, he'd be out there producing yet another message -- one with proof of timing -- to thumb his nose at the world. Fortunately, that won't be happening anytime in anyone's lifetime from this month forward.
