with OBL dead, how will this affect security?

Perhaps more security now for fear of reprisal?

That would be the natural response of the security apparatus.

It is the same response that would occur if he was found healthy and resting on a beach somewhere planning another attack.

It is the same response as we have been getting because there has been no attack since 9/11.

Everything justifies feeding the beast.

Perhaps we will see soldiers returning to the airports, as they did during 9/11? Possibly more use of NoSs, as well as more harassment from the clerks.

I remember the troops in the airports. They may have been armed, but with no ammunition those weapons were pretty much inert. They had troops at Joplin, Mo airport then as well. Saw troops putting up Christmas decorations because there was nothing for them to do.

You know...I actually didn't mind the soldiers with large guns at the airport. Way better than the current TSA circus.

... and more gropes. Already in play today.

Neither did I. However, I would prefer to not have my car searched every time I go to the airport.

I bet this will be the launching board for Pissy and Nappy to get more money for TSA

This is bad news for travelers.

1. Fear of reprisals will mean even more harassment of innocent Americans.

2. This probably guarantees Obama's reelection, which means his DHS and TSA team will be able to continue their reign of terror for another 4 years.

Even if re-election did not occur, the DHS/TSA nonsense would continue and get worse. The problem rests with the people whose apathy, ignorance and/or paranoia give room for the DHS/TSA mission creep to be what it is and get even worse.

Obama's ramped-up emphasis on operations (and blackmailing Pakistanis) inside Pakistan -- particularly around Rawalpindi and ISB as has been known for years -- deserves credit for this. ;)

This certainly won't improve matters, but nothing will until American apathy, ignorance and/or paranoia is a shadow of its current self.

Well that's likely to be the case no matter which viable candidate is elected.

+1

The structure of fear here is way more powerful than any one individual or administration even. The individuals can change, the structure will not.

That's definitely possible. On the other hand, a new administration would replace Napolitano and Pistole. The new heads of DHS and TSA could effect a change of course

Rather than "possible" -- it's certain. It's definitely the current situation and situated to remain so.

Not change for the better as long as apathy, ignorance and/or paranoia remains what it is.

1. I'm more concerned about reprisal attacks from Qaddafi - and who could blame him?

2. It's a long way from the 2012 election. Obama may get a short boost but this will be forgotten in a month. A simple sentence oft repeated will determine his fate next year: "It's the economy, stupid!"
