with OBL dead, how will this affect security?
Perhaps more security now for fear of reprisal?

It is the same response that would occur if he was found healthy and resting on a beach somewhere planning another attack. It is the same response as we have been getting because there has been no attack since 9/11. Everything justifies feeding the beast. |
Perhaps we will see soldiers returning to the airports, as they did during 9/11? Possibly more use of NoSs, as well as more harassment from the clerks.

You know...I actually didn't mind the soldiers with large guns at the airport. Way better than the current TSA circus. |

I bet this will be the launching board for Pissy and Nappy to get more money for TSA  |
This is bad news for travelers.
1. Fear of reprisals will mean even more harassment of innocent Americans. 2. This probably guarantees Obama's reelection, which means his DHS and TSA team will be able to continue their reign of terror for another 4 years. |

Obama's ramped-up emphasis on operations (and blackmailing Pakistanis) inside Pakistan -- particularly around Rawalpindi and ISB as has been known for years -- deserves credit for this. ;) This certainly won't improve matters, but nothing will until American apathy, ignorance and/or paranoia is a shadow of its current self. |

Even if re-election did not occur, the DHS/TSA nonsense would continue and get worse. The problem rests with the people whose apathy, ignorance and/or paranoia give room for the DHS/TSA mission creep to be what it is and get even worse.
The structure of fear here is way more powerful than any one individual or administration even. The individuals can change, the structure will not. |

Obama may get a short boost but this will be forgotten in a month. A simple sentence oft repeated will determine his fate next year: "It's the economy, stupid!" |
TSA will be using this as an excuse to not address the repeated child pornography charges of its members. *If* there is any truth to the idea that the same members patted down children and/or saved images then the assassination could not have occurred at a better time to take people's minds of the 'small things' like pedophiles and sexually assaulting children at the airports.

TSA and its "officers" will use it as an excuse to molest more children.
|
Totally disagree, but if you're right the airlines will get a letter from me telling them why I'm not flying any more.
Would take repeated sucessful terroist acts before they would try to do that. But then I'm an optimist. Came back from PDX today, and not a scanner in sight; liked it. |

And you're saying that Republicans are champions of letting people have their freedoms?! When did that happen? What makes you think that the TSA is partisan Democrat or Republican?

I never mentioned parties. A new president will bring in new department heads, though. I just desperately want to believe that they will be more sensible and take a rational look at operations.

I sure hope they don't "temporarily" pull the "no carryons, no one out of your seat or reading a magazine for the last hour" crap they did after Captain Underroos tried his Christmas stunt.
Doubly so since I am traveling extensively in the next month, starting with some TATL travel Tuesday. |

http://travel.state.gov/travel/cis_p...worldwide.html Its a SAD day at TSA Head Quarters. When Osama said take waters bottle, TSA began taking water bottles When Osama said play shoe Carnival, TSA instituted shoe carnival. When Osama violate innocent people, TSA began irradiating adults and molesting children. Who will TSA and its pretend officers take orders from now? |
Oh, just saw that the alert doesn't expire until August 1st. Looks like you travelers are going to have a long summer.

Yes, we are listening on the news tonight. We are glad to see OBL is dead. Do you really think TSA will eliminated only ticketed passengers, shoe carnival, liquid restrictions will be eased.

Oh for sure. Creating longer lines pre TDC. However I cannot mention what an inviting target this is, as in another thread someone said every FT poster should be reported to Homeland Security for writing about such easy targets as the bad guys would never figure it out for themselves. Well, bad guys in Scotland and Moscow noticed packed crowd areas outside checkpoint security were easy targets, but shhhhh they must be the only ones so if no one posts it here no other bad guys will ever figure it out.
That sounds like the guy who got on my case on a forum right after 9/11 about something I said about tracking terrorists via their cell phones. I mentioned that it was a very simple task of purchasing a pre-paid phone (like Boost or Virgin Mobile) with cash, and they guy said, "Gee, thanks for giving the terrorists a leg up on American intelligence. Now they all know how to get around being traced!" Because, you know, buying a pre-paid cell phone (which you can do at 7-11 or Circle K or WalMart or Target) is so difficult to do, and, apparently, all terrorists are blithering idiots. |
