Ate at Cafe Presse today. It is located on 12th and Madison next the Self Storage facility. Amazing light French menu serving things from grilled sardine baugette for $5 to Poisson saute a la menuiere (Pan-sauteed fish on red wine-spinach-radish lentil ragout) for $12; falafel, sauce blanche (Chickpea fritters, yogurt sauce, tomato and cucumber) for $7 and very good glasses of French wine for $3.50 to $4.00 a glass. Light fare at this modern sunny cafe and it has only been open for 3 days but should be really hot once people discover it. Just remember you heard it from me first. The Stranger "Slog" alerted me to it.
Just remember that a half "pichet" is twice as much as a glass and equal to two glasses in volume. A "pitchet" is 4 times the price and equal to four glasses in volume. Where can you find a good glass of wine for $3.50??? |
I was in the Seattle area on a job-interview trip (rental car/hotel/airfare courtesy of Microsoft) when I had the urge to check out Beth's Cafe.
http://www.bethscafe.com I just had to try their gigantic 6- and 12-egg omelettes (see menu: http://www.bethscafe.com/menu_p1.htm) :) Also, the fact that nearly everyone in that joint is under-30 makes it a nice place to hang out at (for us twentysomethings). Additionally, their huge omelettes are big enough to have The Travel Channel rate Beth's Cafe as being #4 on the top 10 list of best places to pig out at. I can't wait to return to Seattle this October as I look forward to trying out all of the suggestions in this thread. ^ |

I loved Assagio's when I lived in Seattle. It's been nearly five years since I've been there...anyone have a recent experience there? I'm lusting after any of Mauro's risotto dishes right now.

BUt speaking of Itallian, I went back to Tavolata a week ago and again I really enjoyed it (and I'm tough on Itallian food). Just be prepared for a long wait- they only take reservations for 6+. My parents were in town last week and we went to Tilth (in Wallingford). I wanted to love this place so much, but I just couldn't. Our service was average and I think they tried too hard to impress and be creative. It was the first night of their July menu, so maybe that had something to do with it. The Corn Creme Brulee w/ Maple BBQ Sauce and Carmelized Bacon was every bit interesting as the description. In other news, Matt's in the Market just reopened. Definitely on the top of my list to check out. |
Oh, and in another Seattle Dining/Drinking Escapade, last saturday 5 of us did a Wedgewood -> Green Lake -> Aurora -> Phinney Ridge -> Fremont -> Queen Anne Pub Crawl (about 11 miles):

The bf and I ate at Portage Bay Cafe the other week. What a gem of a find! The breakfasts are darn good and healthy too. A lot of the stuff is organic or veggie and the portions are nice too. We had something very simple, eggs, pepper bacon, potatoes and pancakes. They have a dressing bar (can't remember exactly what they call it) that you can fix up your pancakes up with fresh berries, pears, fresh whipped cream, butter and syrup. The reviews that I had read said it gets quite busy but it wasn't too bad since we went during the week. Here is a link to the reviews for the place, it is located in the University dist. http://www.yelp.com/biz/6OVriioGG7w7...uery:breakfast

Sounds good. Not much of a location, though -- sort of on the median strip between one fast-moving southbound arterial and one fast-moving northbound one.

Portage Bay is the best breakfast in Seattle. It's definitely worth the wait on a saturday or sunday morning.
