Did not find it by searching, but does the benefit of room upgrades works in practice with Platinum?
|
Yes, it works, and like Platinum for live they are usually better. Although I think and have said many times to guest service that Marriott, Hilton, IHG or Hyatt are more generous with upgrades to suites.
Normally when they give me a good upgrade, whether it's at Melia, Hilton, Marriott... I spend more money at the hotel as a way of thanking them. |

MELIA rewards has 30% bonus promo until November 21. I purchased the points and booked a hotel through the app. It’s 50% of cash price. Crazy deal.

It's sitting on the webpage the moment you bring it up.
Thank you for indicating this. I went into my account to find all my points had been cancelled, so now I have to sort that out. Did they change the amount of time permitted between activities in order to keep the account alive? |
Here's an update to my deleted 91,000 points situation. I got a message saying that points expire after a year of inactivity, and the case was closed.. I reopened it, asking if they would consider reinstating my points so I could make a booking and the CS agent responded in the positive, saying I had until 20th December to use them. I am assuming the stay doesn't have to take place before then. Yes, it's my fault for not paying attention to the expiry date (unusual for me) but some form of notification would have been nice.
I don't think this thread gets a lot of traction, but the question I want to throw out there is if anyone can recommend any nice Melia properties? The Melia Boutique hotel in Mallorca is very nice, but it is closed in the winter season. Because the first half of the year is so busy for me, I would have to make a booking for next autumn. |
I am new to Melia and have a question about the upgrade certificate. It says upgrade to a superior room upon availability, with online checkin, up to 48 hours in advance.
I will be at the Gran Melia Iguazu from Jan 2 to Jan 5, a very busy time no doubt. I was lucky that there was a recent price drop on those dates, but still pricey. Trying to decide whether to apply a 5% discount (worth $125 or so) or get the upgrade. If the upgrade goes through, that's worth more than $1000 on those nights (although I wouldn't pay that rate, it's worth more than $125 savings from the 5% - in a slow period the room is $100 more). 1) Does superior just mean better, or does it mean you can only upgrade to a "superior room" and not a "deluxe room"? This hotel doesn't show "superior rooms" they start at deluxe. 2) Is there capacity controls on the upgrade or if I see a one category upgrade (deluxe room jungle view to deluxe room falls view), it is available for the upgrade cert. 3) Is it confirmed upon on line check in or do I have to see whether it's still available when I arrive. 4) Is it straightforward to apply to the reservation? 48 hours ahead will be NYE and I think I won't be able to reach Melia customer service. |

I actually used my platinum upgrade in the very same hotel and got falls view instead of jungle view. 2) While the Platinum upgrades are minor, I have got them on more stays than not and it seems to only be if the room is for sale without additional capacity constraints specific to upgrades. 3) The platinum upgrades apply at online check-in (or in hotel, but I've had the hotels refuse before when rooms were available, so I definitely favour online). For your voucher it is online only I believe. 4) I believe it is simple to apply purely based on hearing of others using them and not hearing complaints. It is a risk though, I did have an online check in fail before in New York and then lost the platinum upgrade... but Melia support is really particularly awful, so I honestly wouldn't expect them to help or be able to help regardless of the date! |
It has been a bugbear of mine for a while that people have accepted Melia's Black Friday advertised discounts as genuine, despite my observations that the discounts are far far below those advertised and at times I have seen rates increase (looking at you Melia Sevilla)! I had expected to be able to set up some RPA/web scraping to collate prices to really reveal Melia's false advertising. Unfortunately I ended up travelling and unable to this year, but I still did collate a few prices before and after Black Friday rates to help inform and advise others to monitor prices before Black Friday. See below my findings.
Price comparisons from standard rates on the Melia app before (Wednesday) and after Black Friday rates (today), all for booking with 2 adults on B&B non refundable rates unless stated otherwise:Gran Melia Palacio de Isora – Tenerife 5 – 12 March 2025: Deluxe Room – €1,596 –> €1,525.54 – 4.41% discount 22 – 29 May 2025: Deluxe Room – €1,295.80 –> €1,228.92 – 5.16% discount 17 – 24 July 2025: Deluxe Room – €1,843.00 –> €1,758.27 – 4.60% discount 10 – 17 September 2025: Deluxe Room – €1,403.15 –> €1,322.02 – 5.78% discount 5 – 12 December 2024: Deluxe Room Partial Ocean View – €1,621.48 –> €1,513.56 – 6.66% discount 5 – 12 December 2024: Deluxe Room – €1,756.00 –> €1,345.32 – 23.39% discount (Something was very weird here with pre Black Friday standard room prices being higher than the superior room! Perhaps like electronic stores putting up prices on particular products before a sale to be able to advertised a set discount. In this case though, they aren’t matching their advertised discount.) Advertised Discount: 40%, Real Discount: Average 5.32% excluding odd December outlier, or 8.33% including it. Paradisus Palma Real Gold & Spa Resort – Punta Cana, Dominican Republic 9 – 16 April 2025: Junior Suite Garden View – €2,932.65 –> €2,641.12 – 9.9% discount 10 – 17 September 2025: Junior Suite Garden View – €2,187.85 –> €2,377.48 – 8.67% INCREASE Advertised Discount: 40% Real Discount: 0.62% Gran Melia Palacios de los Duques – Madrid 9 – 16 April 2025: Classic Room – Room only – €3,061.85 –> €2,613.45 – 14.64% discount 11 – 18 June 2025: Classic Room – Room only – €3,667.00 –> €3,019.10 – 17.67% discount Note that this is an urban hotel in Madrid but the Black Friday rates are loaded beyond April (as shown above in June). Advertised Discount: Not shown (but shows as a participating hotel in the conditions of the Black Friday offer) Real Discount: 16.16% Melia Sevilla – Seville 20 – 27 March 2025: Melia Room with Terrace – Room only – €1,366.00 –> €1,469.00 – 7.54% INCREASE 11 – 18 June 2025: Melia Room Twin Beds – Room only – €840.78 –> €840.78 – No change, but beyond the applicable period for urban hotels. 10 – 17 September 2025: Melia Room Twin Beds – Room only – €887.76 –> €887.76 – No change, but beyond the applicable period. The increased rate in March does not show as a Black Friday rate (under conditions) so perhaps does not apply to this room type, but the black friday rates cannot be seen on those dates. Advertised Discount: Not shown Real Discount: None observed. Very oddly, Innside New York showed Black Friday rates earlier today which were unchanged from prior prices, but have since updated and show a reasonable discount up to 19%. Melia's IT is definitely the worst of any hotel chain I've experienced, so it may be beneficial to allow some time for the rates to be properly loaded by the intern :D! You can see that generally the discounts are minor and, worse, there were 2 increases in this relatively small sample. It is more likely than not that there will be a small saving booking at these Black Friday rates, but it is uncertain and minor. Unfortunately Melia charge quite a lot additional for flexible/cancellable rates and so my only advice is for future years do check rates before Black Friday. Hopefully I can build a much bigger data set next year. Finally, there is no need to rush to book in this Black Friday booking window. Every year for several years the Black Friday offers were immediately followed by Cyber Monday rates at the same discount (or increase) level. |
Without a doubt the Gran Melia Palacio de los Duques is the best Melia Hotel

Any experience how long does it take to get points posted? Check out was 22 of nov and still no points received

I have given up any types of promotions at least 5 years ago. You are right and thanks for your extensive and detailed info. After I completed 13 years of platinum status, and Melia refused to gave me a Lifetime status, I just completely ignored them ever since. |
