Points Expiry
I received 4000 Melia Rewards points last year in the British Airways promo. The points are about to expire in a month's time. I tried cashing them out to Amazon Vouches and Avios but it doesn't work, probably because these promo points are ringfenced. Is there a way to extend these Melia Rewards points? I am not particularly interested in buying more points, considering I have little use for them at this time. But if that is the only way possible, what is the lowest amount of points I can buy?
Thanks in advance for your help. |
Maybe you could extend all of the points by just buying a small minimum amount, like 1,000 points? That would cost only 5 Euros.

There seems to be a 25% bonus if you purchase point before the end of June 2021. I have to say, 25% doesn't really rock my boat.

And the occasional packages via Amazon are even better value... |
The problem with the Amazon packages is that you have to use them within a specific time frame, I believe. That's what has stopped me ever from buying one of them, because I don't get to use Melia much unless I am in Spain, so there is a good chance I would not get around to using the package if I got one.

I don't know how, as generally I have a dislike for Melia based on multiple experiences with their customer support, but recently I have achieved MeliaRewards Platinum status!
There is a handy counter in the app (but not that I can see on the website) which showed me how many more nights/stays/spend I needed to qualify for Platinum. Now that I've reached platinum this counter has dropped down to 0 (e.g. 0 nights required to qualify for Platinum). Does anyone know if this will change soon so that it will help me track how well I'm going towards maintaining my status? As there are certain quirks to the program I only noticed with the aid of this counter i.e. multiple room bookings under separate reservations in the same name did count towards these nights; or that the nights got recognised a few days after check-in for a relevant stay and not after check out. |
Well you must have been spending too many nights in their hotels. In fairness, though, there are some very nice boutique properties which you can spend points, or even cash, on

Don't forget to check your Meliá points balances. I just saw today that I was going to lose over 80,000 points at the end of October, this month, so I bought a handful of points (4,000 actually) to reanimate the account. I would be happier buying points if there were some kind of bonus, like Hilton are currently offering (100% bonus), but at the moment there are no offers.

Good reminder! I transferred 100 points to avios and the expiration was extended one year.

I like Meliá hotels but I have very little opportunity to stay with them. There is a very nice boutique Meliá on Mallorca that I would like to go back to.
And I have never understood the Tryp thing. Do they belong to Meliá or Wyndham? Just thinking of the opportunities to stay with Tryp in Germany. |
I am planning a few point stays in hotels with (Red-) level lounges. I am platinum. Does anyone know if point stays allow for access to the lounges for platinum guests?

I spent €3000,00 at Gran Melia Palacio de Isora Tenerife in September.
To date (7/11) no points credited (~40000 points). Rewards customer service say they are still awaiting confirmation from hotel. I wrote to hotel, no reply. When I will eventually get the points, I'll report my stay

It seems one has to achieve 50 nights in a year, but when does the year begin? No support from customer service.... |

Same applied to me. I had 28 nights in August to achieve Platinum. When done, counter showed 0, then back to 50, then 22 (=50-28).
It seems one has to achieve 50 nights in a year, but when does the year begin? No support from customer service.... I’m a little confused about your counter movements and if you hit platinum? My understanding is that you need 50 nights in your membership year. Your membership year is from opening of your account, but the virtual card in the app will show the month at least. If you hit the requirements for a higher tier part way through a membership year, your account will be upgraded to the next tier immediately (within 10 days I believe I was once advised), and you have 12 months from that upgrade date to stays 50 nights and retain platinum, otherwise you’ll drop down. So really your membership year has now changed and it’s a new membership year from the date you attained the new status. A quirk is that the nights seem to credit a few days after check-in and not, as with any other program I know, after check out. So, say I have already stayed 36 nights with Melia and go for a 14 night stay before my membership year ends and the counter resets, you will probably end up hitting status in the middle of that 14 night stay. I’m not sure what Melia do if the 14 night stay went over two membership years and I get the feeling they wouldn’t know what happens either. |
