Any idea if when upgrading from Gold to Platinum (organically through the number of nights), you get a new set of 20% coupons and the old ones become invalid?
I have 48 nights so far and have an upcoming stay of 21 days, so I am thinking to split in 3 bookings (2 +8+11 nights), so that I can use the platinum benefits such as the lounge after the 2 nights post a week later.
On a separate note, while 2000 points give quiet a good value discount, anything above is poor use of them.

As far as I know, the coupons are renewed when they review your account annually, regardless of whether you upgrade from Gold to Platinum before then.
The ones you have as Gold are still valid until Melia Rewardws review your account.
It usually takes a few days after checkout to post the nights and of course upgrade from Gold to Platinum, so my advice if you can is to book 2 nights minimum a week before using the 21 day reservation to ensure your account is upgraded to Platinum Member.
It depends, usually 2,000 points and paying the fare is the best, but sometimes paying everything with points is cheaper.
The only good advantage over Gold is the access to the lounge and that they usually respect the late check out and early check in for Platinum members. I have often told the guest service department that compared to Marriott, IHG, Hilton... they do not appreciate the highest level member as much.

Very interesting post! Hearing it is even possible amazes me. With a requirement of 50 stays (not nights) per year including covid times and that you had to fight and know somebody to get it, I am not surprised there are almost no lifetime platinum members.
Not quite sure why Melia’s strategy targets infrequent guests (giving away gold and 20% vouchers) vs actual loyalty (messy terms, almost impossible lifetime platinum, loyal guest pay more on average than less loyal with 20% vouchers, no corporate intervention with member hotels).
I have almost completely given up on Melia for a little over a year and changed to Hyatt. My platinum seems to have been renewed for another year though despite not meeting the requirements. I think this is because they are currently assessing on the basis of stays in the last two years. As is typical with Melia, the two year thing is not clear.

Maybe the more experienced Melia users here can help: I'm trying now for several days to transfer my Melia Rewards points to Avios (tried both BA and IB) but I'm constantly receiving an error message that the transfer cannot take place. Accounts are on the very same name, so I'm not really sure what the problem is about as the error message is very generic. Points are not bought but earned via hotel stays (around 45k).
Do you think the issue could be that in my melia account, the account holder name is written solely in capital letters while in the BA/IB it is not? Sure I could call Melia to ask but I have serious doubts that the general phone number here in DE can really help. So if you would have a contact for MR questions, that would be also much appreciated.

I am trying to book a night at Gran Melia Iguazu. Amex FHR is showing $805 where as CapitalOne Travel is showing $670 and hotel is showing $682. Thats quite a difference even considering the benefits FHR provides. Does anyone know why? Is Amex incorrectly calculating the taxes?
Are there any better / cheaper ways to book Gran Melia using US based rewards? The hotel is showing 155k Melia Rewards.

Hoping if there is a cheaper way to book these than $600+ per night.

That was a great tip Priv . Thank you!
App is showing 5% in home screen but I am showing 10% discount in the checkout screen. $682 went to $640 after 2000 points and then to $574 after 10% discount.
Is the 2000 points the sweet spot i.e., is worth buying / adding more points along with 2000?

Just discovered Melia but I am flabbergasted by their tech lol
They have a 30% bonus offer showing for buying points - https://sites.melia.com/en/europe/melia-rewards-connect
In the terms, it says "Booking period: 04/11/2024 - 21/11/2024". Does it mean the offer is applicable only for points purchased during that period? So likely not available right now?
Website - The website rate is ~140k points for 1 night. I am able to arrive at the points promotion page from google search but I can't confidently say it will apply since there is no indication of promotion during checkout. Also, I am not sure how long it will take, even though the terms say 24 hours. That worries me if the room rate will still be available.
App - The app shows a lower price to begin with ~72k points for 1 night which is great. Is this kind of difference real or is it some kind of bug that would error out when I try to book? It also allows you to "buy points and book" in a single click and shows ~380 USD final price, which is a great as well!
I wonder if the 30% bonus would be calculated during offer period for "buy points and book"? It would be ~$300 USD.
Going from $600 -> $380 -> $300 is great, if it works!

Sometimes in the app the prices for points are cheaper than on the web, not always. I think the points purchase promotion is still going on, that is, with the 30% plus, each point costs approx. $4 so the night will cost you about $300, a big savings!
In case it doesn't work, it is still much better for you to buy the points and make the reservation with points. If the app says 72,000 points, it is correct. It has never failed me and on many occasions the reservation with points turned out better than paying
If you purchase the points, I would appreciate it if you could confirm if they have given you the 30% bonus because it's a good deal
As a Melia Platinum for life member, I asked directly with Melia Reward platinum costumer service about this promotion and after waiting a few minutes, they asked me where I got this promotion from, because they say it is an internal Melia link that is not active. I have told them that if it is not active, they should remove it because it confuses customers. So it seems the extra 30% doesn't work
