I seem to be having problems lately with folks reading things into my posts that aren't there.
hfly, don't get me wrong. Though I'm sure your numbers are not quite accurate, your ratio is probably pretty close to telling the story. And I agree with you and am aware of the posts in the Delta thread which I have followed.
There are other "posts" I have read on this subject, but they have been on other bulletin boards and newsgroups. There are some folks that like or don't care about the change for whatever reason though.
The issue I was trying to convey had nothing whatsoever to do with the right or wrong of the change in Delta policy. I was simply stating my opinion of what I suspected Randy might be doing and somewhat objecting to the insinuation that he must "take sides".
My point was that I would hope Randy would "count" these few dissenters in whatever decision making/vote tally/ratio mix that he gives to Delta, and it is not neccessaraly his personal responsiblity to take "sides" in this, or do anything for that matter.
Besides, any hard numbers we try to come up with here for FlyerTalkers are bound to be incomplete for 2 reasons:
1. There are tons of lurkers out there that never post.
2. We have no idea of what the numbers are that go by private email to Randy.
So once again...my point to everyone is please don't be bashing Randy or trying to read his silence as support for Delta. I'm confident we'll hear from him when he is able or the time is right. Heck, he just might be out in the middle of some jungle somewhere, for crying out loud!
Just for the record, I'm strongly against these changes and even more upset that they feel they can change the program without sufficent warning at least a full calendar year in advance, so FFers can decide which elite program is best for them. Nothing like busting your hump on Delta for 8 months of the year reaching for that 2001 elite threshold and then being told "Oh, by the way, you're not going to get what you thought you were in 2001." Just not cricket, IMHO.

Randy,
We are planning a chat on the subject next Tuesday at 24:00 GMT, 19:00 EST regarding the SWU issue. We would like it very much if you and any other interested Flyertalkers could attend.

Premix, I respectfully disagree, and I repeat, respectfully. I subscribe to Randy's magazine. While this site is free and I pay for the magazine, I look at the two items as one and the same. So, therefore, I am paying Randy money for his thoughts and ideas. When your Guru disappears on you or does not shed any advice, let alone a "guys and gals, I just can not comment on that right now", I have to wonder. I hope my thoughts are wrong, although I also hope Randy is not stuck in some jungle or on an airliner that is not airworthy. My experience has just thought me if you have nothing to hide, then speak up or something MAY not be the way it should be. So, to clear all this up, Randy, jump in and save the day.
As far as DL changing rules in the middle of the year, so be it, they can do what ever they want so long as it is not illegal and they will bear the burden of the change if it was not in their best interest over time when revenues reflect their changes. It would just be nice to have some input from Randy so I don't jump ship and then DL changes their mind in 4 months time.

Thank You JRF. Good points.
Let's hope for the best but regardless, take individual action by direct communications with Delta. It's really our only hope.
Because our only other option would be to take our business elsewhere. And I know many loyal Delta flyers are not looking forward to having to make that decision.
On the subject of when airlines can notify you of changes, I know you are correct. They can do it any time they feel like it. But in years past it was either a law or some unwritten rule that you gave at least a full calandar year's notice of changes in a program. United did this when they announced major changes in Mileage Plus many years ago and actually created 2 programs in 1. Orignial and New. Even though I didn't like the changes, they at least gave enough notice so I could make a decision on if I wanted to continue to fly them, while not wasting part of "this years" flying for next years elite benefit package.
Slowly the airlines have been throwing this implied responsiblity out the window. I think it stinks and is one of the things I would most want to see included in any Passenger Rights guidelines or legislation.
Just not fair to change the rules in the middle of the game, IMHO.

James was right about the time for the Live Chat, I hope to see you all there.
I have to say that I am very disappointed that there was no mention of this debacle in this months online magazine (out today) especially as several members were asked whether their posts could be quoted for an article.

Dorian,
This thread and all of the topics in it are addressed to Randy, not to you.
In reality, it is not your business. I figured that a smart guy like you would say something like "you posted on all the threads, blah, blah, boo hoo", that is why I actually asked a question and/or sympathized with each thread.
You are not Randy, I suggest if you want to attack me again, and insult all Delta flyers who would like some kind of response, you go to Omni, or community and stay away from a section which is not addressed to you!

Ya, whatever. How 'bout you put up an email address so I could have sent the issue directly?!
"Stay away"? How 'bout you stay away.
