Stretching the rules... experiences?

Ola!

I am on an AONE6 which I started June 7th 2008. The last 4 flights of my route are DPS-HKG-JNB-CPT to collect my new DONE5... I will travel straight on to LHR.

My travel is currently planned to start June 6th in DPS, arriving in CPT June 7th. My DONE5 starts that same day. Unfortunately the HKG-JNB flight on the 6th does not have first class. The one flying on the 9th does.

Two questions:
  1. How strict is the rule that you have to travel within one year? Will BA allow me to fly 2 days later?
  2. Mindpearl in CPT keeps telling me that changing the first international flight will result in a reissue at the new prices. But according to the rules changing the first flight is free if it is done more than 7 days in advance. Who is right?

Thanks for helping me out!

2.
Before travel commences, the ticket should be repriced at current rates and your previous payment used as a credit. You would need to pay any difference and there are no refunds should the new cost be less. The USD125 fee should not be applied if the changes are only to Date/time/oneworld carrier/inventory as long as "ticketed points remain the same".

Thanks guys. Overlooked that paragraph in the rule sheet. Bummer.

EDIT: that paragraph is nowhere to be found in the rule sheet. Unless I am completely mad... It says absolutely nothing about having to reissue. See what is does say below my other reply.

That also negates my second question (or not) but to inform you:

I was booked (and confirmed) on the HKG-JNB flight in F. Next they changed equipment on me (they always do in the summer, but I did not know) to a 2 class A340. They only fly a 3 class A340 once a week, which is 2 days after my ticket expires. My plans do not allow me to fly back one week earlier.

My last hope (albeit a very small one) is that BA will allow me to fly back via LHR to CPT instead of via JNB. This is also against the rules but a lot of rules have been broken lately to accommodate Gold members given the very light loads in premium cabins.

Rulesheet:
Unless otherwise specified
(a) Reservations and Ticketing
For travel originating in TC1
Reservations for the first international flight and all preceeding flights are required at least 7 days prior to
departure of the first flight. Subsequent segments may be open-dated. Tickets must be issued at least 7
days in advance of the first flight.
Exception:
For economy class reservations made 22 or more days before departure, tickets must be issued at
least 21 days before departure.
For travel originating in TC2/3
Reservations for the first international flight and all preceeding flights must be made prior to departure.
Subsequent segments may be open-dated. Tickets may be issued up to one hour prior to departure.
Exception:
For economy class reservations made 22 or more days before departure ticketing must be
completed at least 21 days before departure.
For economy class reservations made 21 to 8 days before departure ticketing must be completed
at least 7 days before departure.
For economy class reserva

I, too, found out about that seasonal equipment change JNB/HKG and changed my plans as a result. Also, with ticket prices now much cheaper in South Korea (for AONEx tix), I'm no longer going to JNB/CPT anyway. (Used to do MRU before that.) If you want to fly two days later, you might try just calling BA to make the change. They might not notice the one year problem, and, in my experience, once they agree to a ticketing change, they'll honor it, even if they subsequently discover that the change violates a rule.

BA should notice that. That should not be allowed through the system. Even if they don't, CX will. OP may then end up stranded in HKG trying to resolve the case with BA.

If I'm reading it right, the OP's issue is not with moving the HKG-JNB flight, it's with the fact that his ticketed first flight on his next RTW is on the 7th and if he wants the First class cabin on HKG-JNB, he won't get there in time.

Yes, but in order to do that I need to move my flight. So you're both right. Plan A (extending the ticket) failed since changing the date of the first flight of ticket 2 would cost ZAR5000,-.

They are now looking if they can bend the rules by having me fly back HKG-LHR-CPT. I do not have high hopes.
