Changing DONE4 routing
I am 4 months into a 1 year RTW trip (loving it!) and want to change my routing so that I can make it to the Hong Kong rugby sevens.
I am currently in Sydney. The ticket is AA issued (ex ARN) and I have about 9 flights left. What is the best way to get it changed and is it possible to convert it to a e-ticket? I am presuming that I can call the AA RTW desk and have the flights confirmed then get QF to do it at an airport desk?

Of the 2 general ideas put forward
You can go to any QF office and get it done, however you will (a) be charged AUD75 service fee plus (b) charged fuel surcharges at the QF levels as well as the normal USD125 fee plus any additional taxes
If you phone the AA ATW desk, you can get the ticket changed and set up for reissue; you will be able to find out whether it can be issued as an eticket at that time; post the paper ticket to the AA ticket office and they will take the USD125 plus new taxes from your credit card plus reisusse the ticket and ( if a paper ticket ) post the new ticket to you
If you are not in a rush and do not need it urgently then I would suggest getting AA to do it

Happy to pay the QF service charge but not really the fuel surcharges so will get AA to sort it and post back to somewhere! Do you know if they can post to an airport for me to pick it up there (Cairns would be the likely place)?

I had one posted to JNB to pick up once but it was a bit nerve-wracking wondering whether it was going to make it (it did to be fair)

They say that it is not possible to re-issue as an eticket but I am checking this with AA ARN where I first got the ticketed. Otherwise, will be posting either to the Oz office or back to Sweden where I know the team are great and will sort things out for me.

As long as there is availability, the AA ATW desk should sort it out ok; there is no reason to send it to Sweden and indeed ( if they are like the UK office ) may not be prepared to post it to Oz.
The people who do the ticketing in Sydney are very good, so I wouldn't worry

That is simply not true. If it is 16 segments or less, it can be re-issued as an e-ticket. I know - from personal experience. However, the trick is finding someone who actually knows how to do it. When someone tells you it can't be done, persist - it can.
Last time we did it was at NRT - after the lengthy usual discussion at the counter at NRT and a phone call or two, it couldn't be done ... until they found the right person in the Tokyo ticket office, who obviously said "no problem". Had to let them send the tickets in to Tokyo, who then delivered the revised/ electronic itinerary to our hotel (along with some refund vouchers for some taxes).

since we are talking about re-issuing, can you remind of the rules in this situation?
I have a DONE4 ticket issued in May 2006, prior to change in rules about surface segments. I have 20 flight segment and a few surface segments. If I were to reissue it today, would I be "grandfathered" under old rules or will I have to comply with new rules about including surface segments into total 20-segment count? Can I make change to my routing to include surface segments not being counted (i.e. as per old rules) or will any surface segments going forward will be included in total count?

The rules at the time of initial ticketing are the rules you go by.
So "grandfathered" under the old is correct. However, you may need to convince the ticketing agency of this.

Does this mean I can have a 20-segment paper ticket issued, and then, after flying four segments, have it reissued as an e-ticket?
If so, since I wouldn't be changing my routing (I would just be continuing my prior routing), would there be a fee for the e-ticket reissue? Thanks.

Shouldn't be a fee but it depends on who does it.
