Hi all,
I'm looking at doing a trip LHR-MAL (via DOH)-HKG-NRT-HNL-LAX-ORD-LHR. We've lived in South Africa and would be happy to incorporate that into the trip given all our friends down there. it will be myself, wife and 15 month old daughter travelling over c.8-12 weeks. Two questions I have: 1) Do you have to complete your RTW ticket. e.g start in JNB but get off at LHR after completing most of the trip? What happens if you don't complete all legs? 2) Can you add an infant for part of the trip? Any ideas on the trip would be greatly appreciated. We also have friends in Finland we would love to see too. Thanks in advance! |

If economy, then the cost savings created by adding Africa to the itinerary (not just the access costs to South Africa but the addition of a fourth continent) might not be worth it. Without JNB, you would be able to buy a 3-continent ticket. For example, a four-continent economy ticket bought in South Africa is around £1240 plus taxes and fees. A 3-continent economy ticket bought in the UK is £1800; in the Euro zone £1670, and in Egypt around £1430. In business class, a DONE4 bought in South Africa is much cheaper than Europe, but not too much cheaper than a 3-continent DONE3 bought in Egypt, £3440 in SA v. £3740 in Egypt. You can do the math and see how it works out; but it's doubtful to me that you could get from the UK to South Africa and back for something like £400 or less. Using a 3-continent approach, I'd look at something like CDG-DOH-MLE-HKG-NRT-HNL-LAX-ORD-LHR-HEL-CDG in order to capture the lower Euro-zone fare, plus avoiding big UK departure taxes (just fly on your own to Paris, but could also be AMS or anywhere else where the Euro is the currency.) And by adding the UK as a stopover rather than as origin/destination, you could spread out the trip and make Finland a secondary holiday later. Just some speculation on my part, of course. (I'm assuming that by MAL you mean MLE - Male.) 2. Infants without a seat are charged 10% of the fare; with a seat kids under twelve pay 75%. |
MAL(Mangole Island, Maluku Islands, Indonesia) ?
Anyway, some threads discussed your question 1). An answer is basically YES you can practically terminate your journey on the way, but of course, no refund. 2). An oneworld explorer rule sheet in http://www.oneworld.com/ clearly states child/infant discount. Infant without a seat - charge 10 percent of fare. (NOTE If an infant reaches two years of age after travel has commenced but before travel is complete, a full child fare ticket must be purchased for the entire journey. Exception, For sales in Russia, for travel commencing in Russia: Infat under 2 without a seat not permitted.) |

ALSO for further info on lap-infants (for info as the itin in question does not include South America). Lan Chile do not permit lap-infants in business class, regardless of if it is a DONEx fare or a regular point-to-point or return fare. I kissed Lan Chile goodbye for almost all of my DONE6 flights for this reason and Lan Chile likewise kissed goodbye to a large proportion their share of my $26k+ (family) ticket cost in favour of American Airlines. Edit: According to the Lan Chile website, they also require children over 2 and occupying a seat to pay the full adult fare (no 75% fare) for business class. However this requirement does not seem to apply when the child is travelling on a DONEx fare. |

JNB-QR-xDOH-QR-MAD MAD-AB-xDUS-AB-LAX LAX-AA-JFK JFK-AA/CX-HKG HKG-CX-NRT NRT-CX-HKG HKG-CX-JNB This priced out at: Fare 59,070ZAR Tax 2,025ZAR YQ 8,922ZAR This was a reduction of 1,100ZAR or US$100 from flying AA TATL. The big question is AA 77W worth the $100 upgrade from AB? I was told in multiple conversations that a computer calculates the YQ/YR therefore agents cannot give detail or breakdown of these. Is this really the case or was I being told to take it or leave it? Final Price: Fare 58,940ZAR Tax 1,826ZAR YQ 5,904ZAR I cannot explain the fact that everything was lower than when setup by the RTW desk and sent for pricing, but from now on I am calling SA directly! |

Key issue is if we are starting the trip in JNB but routing back up to London en route to MLE, can we pick up our infant at that point (say after 4/5 days with the grandparents whilst we would be in SA). E.g. Can you add the infant for specific legs? |
Hi all - I've searched this thread for "extra sectors" and "extra segments" with no joy- how much does it cost to buy extra sectors / segments (as in, I can see its dependent on the class of travel, but what is the dependency.)
Also -if I do want extra sectors how should I book it since it looks like the online tool can't cope with that concept? Cheers |

The sixteen sector limit is a technical restriction imposed by IATA. An e-ticket cannot hold more than sixteen sectors, including surface sectors. (Well actually, each e-ticket can only hold four sectors, but you can join up to four tickets together to form a booklet of conjunction tickets.)

Or am I misunderstanding the rules (which I think allow you 2 visits to Europe, and 1 that lasts more than 24 hours- currently I have no visits lasting > 24 hours but 2 visits to Europe.)

Not sure if this is the right place to ask but here goes;
I am looking at combining a trip into Asia and the United States early next year. I was wondering if it is possible to find Circle Pacific fare information online? (I am based in Sydney). Is it still the case that HKG is the cheapest place to buy a circle pacific ticket in Asia? If so, is there a way this can be purchased online? I can position somewhere else in Asia if it is significantly cheaper than ex SYD. Thanks in advance. |

You will have to purchase this through the airline ticketing desk or potentially through a competent travel agent. I've not had time to look at prices for you Code:

I tried to find whether this has been covered before, but I don't think it has.
It concerns a number of AA/US flights that are direct from outside US to somewhere in the US via an international entry point. I've tried to see if it will validate with the flights onboard with the RTW tool, but unfortunately the RTW tool finds these segments, but won't find others in my itinerary, so I can't build the itinerary online. I'll give an example: AA69. It's MAD-MIA-SFO, but there's an aircraft change and there is a change of configuration as well AA 69 0 MAD-MIA J7 R7 D7 I7 Y7 B7 H7 K7 M7 L7 V7 G7 S7 N7 Q7 O7 (so Business/Economy configuration on a 777-200) AA 69 MIA-SFO F3 A2 P2 Y7 B7 H7 K7 M7 L7 W7 V7 G7 S7 N7 Q0 O0 (so First/Economy configuration on a 737-800) When you book it using the online tool, it allows MAD-SFO on AA69 with Booking Class D for the the entire journey although there is no Business on the MIA-SFO run. If I try booking the same in reverse (AA 68 SFO-MIA-MAD), the online tool books it, but insists that the flight be booked into L because "there is no Business Class available". Since I'm having problems with this itinerary, I want to just call AA. But will AA regard AA69 as one international sector with one flight number on the same day or will they insist that it's two sectors and therefore has to be booked with an intercontinental segment and then a domestic segment too? Or is this something that falls between the rules? |

The fact that there is a stop (and an equipment change) should not be of any importance, unless it violates the transcontinental rule (I don't think that applies but need to check the specific wording). I don't know why the tool has a problem with the return. |

It's a "direct flight" between MAD and SFO. It counts as one segment in D class. If you want you can split it.

I'm just hoping I don't run into the same thing, especially since I can't get the oneworld booking tool to pick up my other US domestic flights. It just won't show them. |

In the past I've had problems with these routes - especially QF108 JFK-LAX-SYD - the online tool books it as an intercontinental leg, but when I looked to get a travel agent to do the same, they could not get around it being split into QF108 JFK-LAX and QF108 LAX-SYD, which thereby triggers the US transcon rule as I already had a transcon in my itinerary. In the end I just booked it via the booking tool to get around the agent.

Hi There,
Is changing a surface segment to a flight considered a change to the ticketed points? Thanks |
Hey guys,
Apologies if this is covered elsewhere - I tried using the search function to no avail. Does anyone have a route on a one world round the world ticket that takes in French Polynesia (Papeete)? Thanks! |

Thanks! You can use the Global Explorer to visit Tahiti (or Fiji for that matter) as the GlobEx allows use of Qantas codeshares on Air Tahiti metal. The Oneworld Explorer doesn't. You can use the OWE to get from Tahiti to South America on Lan's service, but you can't do a return SCL-PPT-SCL trip with the OWE because it would involve backtracking between South America and the Southwest Pacific. So using the OWE you'd have to fly from AKL or SYD on your own nickel, then pick up the OWE in PPT for onward travel to South America. (With the Global Explorer you could continue from PPT to North America and wouldn't need to route via South America.) |
There used to be a tool to see the costs of the xONEx fares starting from the various countries to see if it's worth it to do a positioning flight. Does that still exist? I can't seem to find it. Or do should I just play around with the booking tool?
Thanks in advance. |

There was a spreadsheet which took data from the oneworld website. That data was removed from the site a few years ago (as it didn't include taxes which is required in many parts of the world), so the spreadsheet no longer worked.
You can only get prices one place at a time from the booking tool or a GDS lookup like expertflyer or kvs |
I am looking at purchaing a D/A ONE4 to start in the Middle East.
Does anyone know the current prices ex CAI, AMM or anywhere else that is priced lower? Also, is it still possible to pull such information out of KVS tool? |

pricing tool for extra segments (NA)
Morning all,
I tend to use DONE4 or 3 to get cost efficient trips done on business. Is there a tool out there that can accurately price additions of up to 2 segments, over the usual maximum, within a one world continent? In particular I'd like 8 segments in my NA trips. The one world planner stops at 6 for NA and this thread (post 1) suggests I can purchase 2 more segments within the ticket. Regards Genemage |

Hi All,
It's been a few years since my last AONEX. I live in Sydney but can position to NRT, but I am looking for a good routing to maximise F, but using the OW tool I seem to be running into a lot of issues transiting in LHR. What I'd like to do is something like SYD-DFW-YVR-JFK (assume Cathay still run this leg with F)-LHR(break for paid flight back to Oz) then 6 months later LHR-MCT-LHR-CPT-JNB-LHR-best use of Asia / south pacific and back to SYD or: NRT-JFK-DEN-YVR-JFK-LHR (break) LHR-MCT-CPT-JNB-LHR (best use of asia / south pacific). I'd welcome your thoughts as I get back into this. Happy to hear better ideas, my key constraints are I want to do SYD-DFW in QF F or equivalent out of NRT say to JFK, I want to get a 6m break in London (to travel back, then pick up again) I want to get to South Africa and I want to do something interesting in Asia before going back to AU. I want to max F sectors. So far the best I have is SYD-DFW-las-YVR-JFK-sxm-JFK-LHR-mct-lhr-jnb-hkg-NRT-bkk-nrt-sin-SYD or nrt-jfk-sxm-jfk-yvr-las-lax-lhr-mct-lhr-jnb-hkg-pek-hkg-sin-syd-nrt or nrt-jfk-sxm-jfk-yvr-las-lhr-mct-lhr-jnb-hkg-bkk-del-bkk-sin-syd-nrt. All improvements welcome. Cheers, Marcus. |
