So this is using a Global Explorer and not a Oneworld Explorer? FJ is not (yet) an eligible carrier with the OWE.

Oh I guess it is - I didn't realize there was a difference and the tool doesn't make it clear. Is there any advantage to a OneWorld Explorer?

Oneworld explorer is 16 segments. Global explorer is mileage based.

From what I'm reading aren't they both limited to 16 segments? Global Explorer being mileage based and OneWorld Explorer being number of continents based?

Yes, but you will often be unable to reach the same number of segments given the mileage restriction of a GlobEx that you can using an xonex. If you like to fly long segments in true business or first class (and not burn up segments in a regional or domestic business class) then you will find that your allotted mileage evaporates before you’ve been able to use all your available segments.

Stopovers are also limited with a GlobEx, especially the smallest one.

Thanks. I'm not one of those people who thinks shorter regional flights are a waste on a RTW. I'm not trying to maximize my time on a plane, but to get good value. (For example, the HNL-CXI is only a couple hours, but buying it in business class is nearly $2,000 on its own, so it's a great value.)

*ONE* and *GLOB* have some different rules. Easy to download the rules
More allowable airlines with *GLOB* (hence some more destinations~routes)

Global Explorer Distance-Based Air Travel
For an even wider choice of where to travel, book your Round The World trip via Global Explorer, which grants you access to an even more extensive list of airlines, including Aer Lingus, Bangkok Airways, oneworld connectpartner Fiji Airways, Jetstar, Jetstar Asia, Jetstar Japan, Jetstar Pacific, WestJet, and Qantas code-share flights operated by Air Tahiti Nui.

Awesome! I just saw MRU-PER on your map, so added that to my list. Also added the new CPT-GRU as I try and flesh out my southern crossings!

...the only downside to CXI is that it entails spending a full seven days there (assuming Fiji is on time...which hasn't been the case for me) and I have zero idea how to occupy that much time!

That's definitely an interesting route, had no idea it even existed until yesterday. Would love to fly it after FJ joins OW, but also as ironmanjt mentions, no idea how to occupy 7 days there... maybe fly the local flight over to the main island for a few of them.

There’s no local flight - it’s a week. I’m considering it as an exercise in meditation and getting away from the 24/7 world. Who knows…maybe I’ll try fishing!

Ah ha, I was referring to the Air Nauru flight to Tarawa, but I see that's only once a week as well, and on Mondays so yeah wouldn't work out.

Ended up watching some YouTube videos on the island, seems fishing is the popular thing to do, also seems a charter to Fanning Island is popular for fishing, but doesn't seem too reliable.

Certainly look forward to FJ joining OW so these odd flights can be put into a greater xONEx itinerary. I've never been able to construct a Global Explorer under 34k miles that I was satisfied with.

34k seems a ton to me, but it all depends what you want out of your trip. I’m looking for odd destinations while I understand lots of folks want to see as many far flung places as possible. The benefits of being to every country I guess!

With regard to the AA rule about either TPAC or TATL being an AA flight, does an AA codeshare on someone else's metal satisfy the requirement?

When I go there, I plan to take a few books with me.
A hammock, under a palm tree, preferable with bar service ...:D

And I see ironmanjt has done the Micronesia island hopper - very jealous!
