I would not call the staff idiots.

I would suggest the rules can seem complex to some employees and often retraining is required - especially when staff had been instructed by managers who themselves misinterpreted the access rules.

it is very straight forward.
OWE non-aa get access on any oneworld ticket. the end. that is not complex at all.

Ah, it was real question, not something rhetorical.

Of course, you could check the Access ready reckoner at the start of this thread's wiki.

QF/OW lounge access with separate PNRs?

I'll be arriving LAX on a CX flight from HKG in coach. A few hours later I'll be departing LAX on an AA flight in coach. The two flights are on separate PNRs. As a OWE will I have access to either the OW lounge or QF F lounge in TBIT based on the inbound international flight rule for lounge access? Or do the separate PNRs disqualify me?

serfty Aug 27, 2017 3:55 pm

There are no single PNR/ticket caveats in the oneworld rules for lounge entry based on longhaul (over 5 hours) flights connecting with shorthaul. Lounge entry should be available.

To avoid confusion, make sure you present your CX HKG-LAX BP and your AA BP together.

Given that AA EXP do not have automatic lounge access for USA domestic flights, but do have access if the domestic flight is continuing from an international long haul, presentation of both boarding passes would be expected. I don't recall any specific verbiage in the AA "rules" requiring that both segments be in the same PNR, but I suspect that they would be expected to be a "normal" connection.

Happy wandering

I am a AA Platinum traveling with a companion (AA Gold) from NRT to LAX (AA metal) and LAX to PHX (also AA metal). Will we have trouble getting into the OW LAX TBIT BUSINESS lounge on our layover between flights? I see most people getting hassled by the first class lounge not a lot of stories on the business class lounge...

You should be fine with guest on the basis of:

  • AAdvantage Executive Platinum & Platinum tier traveling on a oneworld Marketed and Operated flight NOT solely part of a "North American* Itinerary".

agreed! but people get denied at the first class lounge when they meet the OW official rules... was wondering if this was also the case at the business lounge or just a first class lounge issue?

serfty Sep 21, 2017 3:29 pm

Eligible PAX can be denied at any time but with these lounges it's generally in relation to misinformed staff.

I suggest since the utter debacle last year when they were given incorrect instruction, most staff seem to correctly know the rules.

That is not to say there won't be isolated issues going forward.

What can you really do? Not try to access on the basis of a remote chance of being denied?

Just looking for some data points on the business class lounge to predict how likely I will get entry as this is basing my connecting flight decision to PHX on AA instead of WN. I appreciate your help.

First time poster, long time lurker. I'll be flying AA/FJ DFW-LAX-NAN in economy as a OW Sapphire (AA PLT). My question is, will this permit me to use the OW Lounge in LAX? Not sure if OW Connect member FJ qualifies me to use the lounge? Thanks.
