Compensation for cancelled flight on AONE ticket

This question is probably easy to answer but I do not know where to get the information from.
Who pays for compensation on xONE tickets in case of flight cancellation - the ticketing (not really marketing in this case, is it?) or the operating airline.

I am in the middle of an AONE4 issued by the AA RTW desk. The next part would have been ICN-HKG-BOM-HKG-LAX. All on CX, with same plane return for the flight to and from BOM.
Unfortunately the flight to ICN is delayed by almost 4 hours and they could not get me into another plane that would allow me to reach the BOM flight. As I have to be in LAX at the booked time CX saw no other chance than to cancel the HKG-BOM-HKG flights and get me a hotel in HKG.

So far so "good", CX staff was really friendly and tried hard to get me into another plane (even Korean Air Economy) but everything was overbooked due to holiday season...

The bit that confuses me is that F checkin told me to speak to AA regarding compensation for the cancelled flights as it is their ticket stock! For me it would make much more sense if CX is responsible as it is a Oneworld ticket and not a conventional AA ticket. Any thoughts about that? I would love to have an idea before I speak to AA as otherwise it will probably be a never-ending discussion where whoever I speak to blames the other party.

What 'compensation' are you after...
You already got a free hotel room, and were seemingly booked on a tight status run...

I would simply ask for Original Routing Credit and be glad that you didn't have to fly the back to back legs, or worse fly economy.

What compensation do you think that you are entitled to? there is no fare adjustment due for this change in routing since the fare would be the same regardless

Cathay has provided a hotel for the stay and have ensured that you reach your next stopover point/end of journey at the scheduled time.

I would be chalking this up to experience

No such thing as a "OneWorld ticket". Tickets are issued by airlines.

You have already received more than any the compensation due (the hotel)

The hotel was offered and I assume you (OP) accepted it. Not many avenues to complain about after that - especially with a mileage run / status run - ie emotional support will be at a minimum when its obvious what you are doing . A longer gap between flights would have saved this problem. Even invol downgrades get zero compensation on the OWE and GE tickets.

Compensation for cancelled flight on AONE ticket

Just arrived in HKG. Thanks for the quick replies. There seems to be a uniform opinion that I am not entitled for further compensation and I am happy to accept that. My view was that I was forced not to use two first class segments of my ticket (12.5%) without any fault from my side. Didn't think that that is too unreasonable but hey - live and learn...:-)

I don't think that OP is talking about "compensation". It seems as though he's talking about a refund. If he was "charged" two segments and flew one due to an invol. reroute, he should be credited back the one segment.

As to Original Routing Credit (ORC), he can ask. But, there's no way he gets the segment count reduced by one and gets the credit.

I would not touch this until the entire itinerary is complete. Too many things can go wrong. Once OP gets home, he can deal with this.

I believe it also makes a difference if BOM was a stopover or a connection. In case of a connection it should be inside the rules to reroute you to your final destination - which they did.
If it is a stopover they are obligated to get you there - which they obviously tried. I believe in that situation you have grounds for some refund, but not sure how much and how it is calculated.

Can you use these two segments in another continent? If so ask CX to reissue your aone4 with the new segments without charge. Otherwise, I agree that you are not entitled to any monetary compensation for the late arriving Inchon flight and the knock on effect on the BOM flights.

I think the only circumstance where a refund would be due is if you had paid the surcharge for extra segments within Asia. As mentioned above you should be able to add two segments to the rest of your trip in another continent if you have not already maxxed out your free segments within each continent.

Given that the OP stated he had a return on the same aeroplane from BOM , it was definitely a transit and not a stopover point

You were transported from stopover point to the next stopover point. That is what the airline is obligated to sort out for you. You were not forced not to use 2 segments; if you wanted to, you could have accepted the delay and then rebooked the other segments if wanting to fly for the sake of it

Usually yes, but the OP could have booked at first with a stopover in BOM and then changed the flight dates to an immediate turn. In that case the ticket would still show a stopover.
