Transiting in Dallas
Hello there,
I'm flying back to Aus (SYD) next week and I'm coming from MSP.
So I'm just wondering about transit times. i think I've given myself plenty of time but I'm worried about all the shenanigans of having to check in from a domestic to an international flight in the U.S. I'm imagining it can be quite time consuming.
I'm flying all one world so AA from MSP to DFW and then QF from DFW to SYD.
Does anyone know if it is possible to check bags all the way through, or is this risky? They are ticketed separately.
My flight is due to land in DFW at 18.45. The QF flight is at 22.00.
This should be fine right? Do I have to travel far? And any tips for making the transit as smooth as possible would be gratefully received.
Cheers

AA should check the bags through. Show then the QF ticket when you check in at MSP. The AA flight could arrive almost anywhere at DFW. The QF flight leaves from Terminal D. All terminals at DFW are connected airside, both by walkways and the Skylink.
A D-I connection at DFW shouldn't take any more then 20 or so mins between gates.

It is not time-consuming at all. There is no exit immigration when leaving the US (other than the airline staff checking your documents at the check-in counter) so a domestic -> international connection is basically exactly the same as a domestic -> domestic connection. Your bags will be checked through. The most time-consuming part will probably be changing terminals at DFW.

For more, see this thread on the Qantas forum:
Confirmed: QF to add SYD-DFW but drop SYD-SFO

If travelling between terminals by the train, give yourself a little extra time in case of train break-downs. Whilst not too stresssful, this added 15 min to transit time recently.
