84 more flights cancelled

Yesterday there was another 84 flights cancelled. Pilots claim they are maxed out at 90 hours (although the fed limit is 100), NW syas pilots not available.
If this keeps up, there will be plenty of passengers bailing to other airlines.

Where did you get the 84 number from? Flightstats.com said Saturday 7/28 cancellations were 178, and Sunday is running up to close to 220.

Unitedskies,

Can I ask you where you are getting your information from?

Looking ahead to having to travel at the end of NEXT month, I'm curious as to which flights are being cancelled.

Thanks.

KOMO in Seattle.
The exact number really does not matter. 220, 178 or 84 in a day is too much.

AA has canceled 138 today. I assume that is also too much? And they don't even have disgruntled pilots calling in sick...

I agree, though, the numbers are pointless. As we all know from reading threads on this forum, all that really matters is if my (or your) flight is canceled.

Thumbs up The good news!

1. Heavy cancellation patterns started a week later in July than in June.
2. The schedule is being trimmed further for August.
3. All the pilots who accepted recall from furlough have training dates.*

*if the internal memo is believed

So... pretty good chance we see a few cancels the last 5 days or so of August, but no days with large numbers of cancels. Does that sound about right?

That would be the hope.

It remains to be seen whether there will be similar levels of pilot absenteeism as there was in June and July. That could certainly throw a monkey wrench into things.

www.flightstats.com provides a running total of canceled flights.

It could - but the steps being taken (lighter scheduling of pilots, lighter scheduling of aircraft, refresher-training the recalls and starting to bring in new hires as well) should decrease the impact even that would have. ^

I don't think I have any more flights 'til the end of August at the earliest, and I dodged the cancellation bullet despite traveling in the latter parts of both June and July, so I'm hoping for things to get back to normal before I set foot on a plane again.

The difference is that in August there will likely be far fewer pilots at their contractual max of 90 hours at the end of the month. It would take far more pilots calling in sick to disrupt the schedule. At that point, it would be pretty clear that it's an unauthorized work action and NW could pursue the pilots legally.

yep, my flight tomorrow from DSM-LAX has already been canceled, re-booked on UAL, although that flight appears full. Are they giving any/much compensation for all these cancels?

Has anyone noticed a pattern by aircraft type --- 757, 319, 320, DC9 ?

(330's and 747's don't count for this exercise !)
