01Mar2006-28Feb2007 Platinum Elite
01Mar2007-29Feb2008 Gold Elite
Had only 49,909 miles on December 5th, so I did a last minute SEA-MSP-SEA ($169 all-in) mall of america run to put me over for the Gold, finishing with 52,703. I also did 50,000 miles flying with American this year. It's not a crash landing as I was weary about myself getting a soft landing, especially after mostly K class bookings.
I'll miss my Platinum status though beginning March 1, 2007.....

I agree. I'm flying to India this month on AA because my boss offered to give me some of his VIP upgrades which work for a fellow traveler. It isn't confirmed but I've got a decent chance of getting upgraded.
The elite guys must still be deciding what to do with my 2007 status as I don't have anything listed on the website yet. I finished with 68K EQM, purposely under platinum, because I sent NW a letter telling them that I was going to try some other airlines in Q4 because of poor service I received from NW.
I have been thinking about switching to United but haven't done anything yet. I also never got any response from NW although I did say that I didn't want any free miles. I could have easily gotten platinum this year, let's see what they do. United made me a Premier Exec for 4 years after I left them, even though I rarely flew them. I guess that's because they valued me having been a 1K flyer for 5 straight years. I've been a NW Plat for 5 straight years, we'll see if that counts for anything.
Maybe it is the 5 year itch - where I love the airline for the first 4 years and become disenchanted in the 5th? There is a pattern.

Not going to happen. I had three trans-Atlantic roundtrips in WBC over the last two months and had trouble buying J class tickets for the exact times I wanted because they had sold out flights in WBC. Demand has definitely picked up, and with their relatively small business class sections (i.e.: fewer seats than some other carriers), why give away any seats for free?
Don't get me wrong, I'd love to be upgraded to WBC for free, I just don't see that happening.

Please read my post again...
So, if 2006 is any indication, you'll have to wait a few weeks to see what NW will do with any soft landings. Most of which will be based on what the elite ranks look like once the dust of 2006 has settled.

My 2007-2008 status disappeared too, even though I've got enough 2006 EQM showing up that I'm obviously plat (and am still waiting for another ~4500 miles to post from partner flights). Oh well, I'll let 'em sort it out.

Before it disappeared, mine said "Gold Elite" with 74,559 posted to my account. Fortunately, I have an IAH-EWR segment on CO from 29-Dec that hasn't posted due to the bump I took that led me to fly standby. I sent my boarding passes in a day or so ago, so I should be good once they post the miles.
