Yes. Just booked a domestic award for my wife. The trip is two months out. Hopefully, the dust will be settled by then.

The StarTribune has that countdown clock for all sorts of things. They regularly use it on the front page for Minnesota Twins and Vikings games as well as other events such as the shuttle launch and landing a few weeks ago. The local TV stations all have had a similar clock (haven't flipped on the tube in a few days),

Sports & Space are one thing. Peoples lives & familys that are to be affected by the doom & gloom clock is stupid. What I really care is that the employees of NWA can earn a decent living & have happy families. We all want 200 dollar coast-to-coast plane tickets & expect NWA to pay 50-60 bucks a barrel? It ain't adding up anymore.

The red star has always hated the red tail. This is fact.

Northworst, Red Star Tribune this is common vocab. if you have or have ever lived in the twin cities.

I am sure there are lots of "Honk if you hate Northwest" bumperstickers in Mpls. Along with lawn signs protesting the corporate monster of NWAC.

Ooops, there goes that agenda.......................... :D

Looks like they might be better off at a sweatshop than what they're expecting. Check out their strike guide.

Stop using hair dryers??

NW 1475 (DTW-MSY) on the 20th is canceled due to "Irregular Operations."

One of the ones with light loads, I guess.

Mine was yesterday (8/18). :) NWA 357 from MSP -> SFO, cancelled due to aircraft maintenance. This was a sold out 752, so there was great pain trying to get on other flights (ended up in SJC instead).

Check out SFO -> MSP all day today- I think at least 2/5 flights were cancelled.

Anyone ever submitted a bill to NWA for reimbursement for car service? SJC was more than 1 hour from home. I don't need cash- an electronic credit would be fine.

From NWA.com:
AMFA Negotiations Status

EAGAN, Minn.- (August 19, 2005; 5:30pm CDT) -- Northwest Airlines presented its last and best contract offer to the Aircraft Mechanics Fraternal Association (AMFA) Thursday, in advance of Friday night's deadline in the mediated negotiations in Washington D.C.

Northwest continues to operate its normal schedule. Labor negotiations are under the auspices of the National Mediation Board. We will provide updates as information is available.

stemor Aug 19, 2005 8:30 pm

AMFA has pointed a loaded gun at its head. It can either pull the trigger itself with a walkout or let NWA pull it with a lockout. The third option is AMFA tucking tail and running away. In none of these scenarios does AMFA wind up with credibility or influence as strong as it was on and before 8/20/05.

Doing nothing is not an option, and an agreeable settlement doesn't seem likely.

Reading the article in the Star Tribune and the quotes from the union leaders therein, one cannot help wonder if they are totally clueless about the state of the US airline industry. They seem almost gleeful that they are doing their part to try to kill off the DTW/MSP home airline.

W@nderer Aug 19, 2005 9:36 pm

News from DTW:

Someone littered the tunnel that the employee buses use to get from employee parking to the midfield terminal with nails (nice...so put your fellow empoyees in danger of injury).

Jet bridges have been vandalized (keys inserted, and then broken off in the "off" position).

Lavatory trucks have been rendered "out of service"

pushback tugs have been locked up - and the keys have walked off the property

Any the AMFA folks wondered why NWA hired "goon" security guards?

AMFA has no strike fund to help support workers. But they have told their members they do have a fund set up for bail (this is from a Star Tribune article).

It sounds if AMFA is JUST as dirty as NWA is (in the mechanics eyes).

BearX220 Aug 19, 2005 9:46 pm

That's disgusting. I pray this is over quickly.
