I'm a new arrival to NW (defecting from AA), so pardon my ignorance. I have two upcoming flights on the 319. While keeping my fingers crossed for the space-available complimentary upgrade, I'm torn between the exit row aisle (9D) and the bulkhead aisle (5D). I'm mainly looking for extra legroom. Does the bulkhead really provide equal or better legroom?

On a 319 row 5 has plenty of legroom. I have long legs, and in 5C or D i have no problem stretching out fully or crossing my legs. One drawback to those seats is that the tray is in your armrest, so movement within your seat is slightly restricted. Worth it for the legroom though.

Correct me if I am wrong, but aren't the seats mentioned reserved for elite seating? That would pretty much negate anyone not having status from being able to hold these seats. Seeing as both posters having these questions seem to be new comers, the chances of them getting bulkhead seating is slim.

Yes, you are right. Ahead of time they are.

However, they're easy to grab on most flights through online checkin. By that time, some of the elites who bothered to reserve them have been upgraded.

And a newcomer who is elite with their previous airline might be getting elite status comped on NW.

Bingo. I'll probably be at the bottom of the pecking order for purposes of upgrades, but at least I can snag the exit row in advance.

Any recommendations for window seats on the 757-300? It looks like 14B is far and away the best aisle seat, but 14A is shifted inward, such that Seatguru says you can forget about looking out the window.

Then there is bulkhead 16F (but is it a decent bulkhead legroom-wise or cramped?)--or is an exit row better, such as row 40, which is not over the wing for instance?

Hopefully I'll just get the upgrades and won't have to worry about this and post these picky questions.

Seat 14B is a nice seat, but one thing I didn't like was that the space in front of row 14AB has a double seat which folds down for FAs. On one of my recent flights, they kept meeting other FAs in that area to talk during the flight, and also frequently pulled the seat down to sit for 30 minutes at a time, which makes it hard to stretch your legs out much.

But, if the FAs stay away from that fold down seat, you'll be in good shape in 14B. It's a toss-up in my opinion.
