Thank you for contacting Northwest Airlines in regard to upgrading your
WorldPerks account, .
A variety of criteria, including information from your British Midland
Airways mileage summary, is considered when evaluating requests from
members to match elite status from another airline. After reviewing the
information provided to us on your FlyBMI account, your Northwest
WorldPerks account has been upgraded to Gold Elite status. This
one-time complimentary membership upgrade will remain valid through
February 28, 2009.

It looks like USAir's status buy program expired 6/30/08.
www.Usairways.com/preferred no longer offers status for a price.
So what is US doing for status matches or purchase these days?

UA Fax #
Just as a note to anyone on here:
I called MileagePlus customer service to ask for the fax number and they gave me (605)-343-4104 which did not work. The number I got out of this thread however, did work properly (605)-341-6140

NW Plat until 2-09 - won't be extended... :(
Hi All!
Here's the letter I wrote back...
Dear Ms. H!
Thank you very much for this wonderful news; I am very grateful for the consideration Northwest has given my request. I am already booked on two flights with Northwest (PNRs: AAAAAA and BBBBBB) and I am very much looking forward to enjoying getting to my destination on Northwest as well as the benefits that Platinum Elite status will give me.
One question - I have very little time (less than 6 months) to ensure that I remain a Platinum Elite member. Without question, my goal is to maintain this status indefinitely, but I am concerned that due to the lag in my request that I will end up losing this valuable benefit. As a result, I was hoping that the period I have to fly to maintain Platinum status could be extended or alternatively that the period for benefits be changed from between 10 July 2008 and 31 December 2008 to 31 Dec 2009 which would give me a full year to generate the required flights and ensure uninterrupted benefits. Any additional consideration you could give to this request would be greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Arie

-and- here's the response I got back:
Dear Mr Arie,
Thank you for your recent e-mail.
Your Platinum elite status ends on 2-28-09.
WorldPerks Elite is an annual program based on flights accrued in a calendar year.
Silver needs 25,000 miles or 30 segments, Gold needs 50,000 miles or 60 segments and Platinum needs 75,000 miles or 100 segments in order to qualify for Elite status.
For information regarding elite Qualifying Segments and qualifications for the Elite program, please visit our website at htt://www.nwa.com/freqfly/elite/overview.html
If you have any additional questions, concerns, or need further assistance, please let us know.
Sincerely,
BC

Sounds pretty final to me, but of course if anyone knows someone or gets a better answer - please post it or message me.
All the best,
Arie

Looks like, for NW, you need to be much closer to the end of the qualification year than July. For my Oct 2006 status match request, my welcome email included this paragraph:
Due to the timing of your 2006 complimentary Gold Elite upgrade, please be advised that your Gold Elite membership will be continued through the
2007 program year - March 1, 2007 through February 29, 2008. You may expect your credentials for this program to be delivered prior to March
1, 2007.

I just got nicked with the same thing from NW. Sent in my packet on 11JUL08 and got word today that I was matched from AA Plat to NW Gold but only through Feb 2009. I'm willing to bet that NW doesn't want to match guys past that on account of the upcoming merger finalization. I'd be interested to see if anyone is able to get Feb 2010 on a match. I also commented on this over in the NW forum, so we'll see if anyone has any insights.

Status match help needed UA to AA (Rookie Q.)
I know I know, I should do the research and find this info myself, but there are 100 pages to go thru, and I've got an upcoming flight on AA, and it's 95 degrees and humid outside.
I'm Prem Exec on UA, is there a # to call to get them to bump my status from a total Zero on AA to a somebody?
Are there certain airlines that are easier to have match our UA status?
I'm Silver on USAir if that means anything.
Thanks!!

But they matched to Plantinum !
It has generally been reported that NW would only match up to 2nd tier.
So, that at least is a consolation for amenachem, and definitely a double reason for me to hold off until much later in the year when I hit UA 1k, and may hope to get the match thru 2/2010.
