Then I read AA's meaning of "lifetime"- it's not MY lifetime but the lifetime of the AAdvantage Gold Program.
Sounds like if it ever suits AA to wipe out the lifetime Gold and/or Platinum benefit, they could simply create new elite tiers-maybe AAdvantage Copper, Silver, and Titanium Executive- and we'd all be back to requalifing yearly or losing the perks.
Would AA ever find it advantageous to do this? I wonder- but the wording reserves that right.

How to be a million miler--for lifetime gold
I have been plodding along-- with all the help from flyer board I am at 800000. Need about 200000 more- Would love to have more eggo waffle coupons- I missed out on the value mags program but bought tons of nutrigrain bars. I hope something great comes up this year- would love to make lifetime gold ( i only fly about 20000 to 25000 miles a year on AA

Before the imposition of limits on segments and transfers with *A RTW tickets, one could have earned UA MM status with three RTW tickets.

2,000 UA segments
UA's 500 mile minimum per flight counts, so 72,000 actual miles flown would suffice if all flights were between LAX and SNA.

Lifetime status
With the discussion from many people regarding those companies who
give lifetime status, this is another reminder that if you are traveling
extensively, consider companies like United, American and Marriott who
Award you lifetime status when you have demonstrated long term commitments to their companies, and stay away from companies like
Northwest who will drop you in a minute if you fall below their guidelines
any year. They are the here and now company and their CEO is clueless
to any activities with customers.

I fly NW because they upgrade me on almost every flight for being an elite without paying a single cent. Period. UA/AA wouldn't offer this to me at the lower elite levels and that's why they don't get my business. There are many out there who agree and disagree, but people choose airlines for different reasons. Thus, just because NW doesn't offer me lifetime status, doesn't mean I'm going to run to UA/AA to get it.
aloha
