Free ticket in US or Canada via United Airlines for only $82!!!

I got the visa with 15,000 miles for $60 (annual fee)
Upgraded to Gold with 5,000 miles for $22 (annual fee)
Now I'm working on getting 5,000 miles through a referral (wanna be my referee? you would get 15,000 miles for getting the card through me)

Voila, 25,000 miles for $82, and no flying!! I think I will be flying to Montreal with this reward.

I'm also getting more miles easily because I'm doing their balance transfer for 1 mile/$2 with my car loan. This visa gives me a better transfer rate (5%) than my car loan (6.25%)! (there was no 0% special for my specific car, but other cars there were.)

Does anyone know of any other credit cards like this???

So far, I have the Alaska cc and United cc. I'm willing to be someones referral if there are awesome deals like this!

Seems to me the United card gives more opportunities for bonus miles than Alaska. I just got a flyer in the mail that said double miles for every purchase on the United card between Oct 1-Nov 30. That is awesome because I know that the Delta cc gives double miles but for only certain purchases.

How can you transfer your car loan to the card? Did you simply use a cash advance check (I didn't know you could get miles for cash advances)?

I just got the last piece of my signup bonus from the NW Visa -- total bonus was 25k miles.

I recently saw a 15k signup bonus for the NW Visa with the fee waived the first year.

The American Airlines Mastercard gives a 10k signup bonus and is free for the first 6 months.

Delta Amex often offers pretty lucrative signup bonuses.

I believe it's double miles on purchases from telephone and mail order merchants only.

The Northwest Airlines card will give you 15,000 miles up front for free. That offer was still available as of a few days ago.

There are lots of cards that will give you 1,000 -10,000 miles up front for free. The Delta American Express card gives double miles for some purchases. The Starwoods card gives 1 1/4 miles per dollar spent if you convert its points to miles in 20,000 mile increments. Delta is giving an extra 5,000 miles for such a conversion through October 31.

Free Frequent Flyer Miles

Thanks for the postings on this everyone. Followed the link above - "free frequent flyer miles" and contacted NW and they confirmed the 15k miles and 1st year annual fee waived. Woo hoo! =)

Since I've become loyal/eilite to NW/CO during the 2003 year - the opportunity to use the credit card and accrue miles with NW falls in line with my needs.

Technically, FirstUSA (aka BankOne) has balance transfer fees, but if you call their customer service line and ask to have it waived when doing the transfer, they will do it (Though I'm not sure how you can do a car loan transfer by phone). At least that's been my experience on several occassions.

Convenience check. I called them and the lady said after I get my Gold upgrade, I would get miles for using the convenience check.


The card that I got in the mail says, "...every purchase you make with your Mileage Plus Visa earns Double Miles." None of the footnotes gives limits to certain businesses.

Any United (or other particularly decent) credit card options that don't have an annual fee?

Usually, convenience checks are considered cash advances and do NOT accrue miles.

Very occaisionally United (along with other airlines) will have a special where convenience checks and balance transfers will accrue miles, but they usually make a big deal about it.

The Amtrak Mastercard earns 1 mile/$ and can be transfered 1:1 to United,Midwest and Continental miles. It has no annual fee and is issued by MBNA and therefore has a low 1% foreign exchange fee (instead of 3% with most Visa/Mastercard issues).

I stand corrected. There were apparently multiple versions of the mailing.

Depends on the volume of charging. Amtrak Mastercard is only good for 25k/yr (the limit for transferring points out of Amtrak).

If you want United miles, you're really limited to the United Visa or the Diners Club card (both with fees).

I still like the Starwood American Express best, but it's no longer good for accruing UA miles since the transfer rate became 2:1 instead of 1:1 (blame UA bankruptcy and BankOne's DIP financing for that one, perhaps)

Great info on cc freq. flier miles. I just signed up hubby for the 20,000 mile card from the link on this post. I signed up 2 weeks ago, (another promotion) and only got 5,000! Talked to customer service, and they say that when I receive my card, and activate it, I should call them back, and they should be able to add more miles to my account too!
