Hi!
This is my first time to this site and my first entry. I am so glad I found it! I just bought an X-type (2-3-03) and might have a chance at 100,000 miles. My husband and I both test drove it too. One thing though - the offer was from 2-4-03 to 3-12-03 (for purchase). I have a call in to Jaguar to see if they'll let me squeak it in. With all due respect, I think everyone is being way too anal about making sure your miles are credited by Jag and/or BA.
Stapling business cards to the form is, perhaps, a prudent measure, but sending them in by certified mail? Please. That is overly anal. Just throw the darn things in the mail and forget about them for a few weeks! Do not attempt to anally stamp or otherwise mark your certicificates. Don't anally insert the forms in some expensive certified envelope. Above all, there's no need to anally transfer a certificate from one person to another. And that's the *bottom* line http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
jmartin, I for one know what you mean--especially in THIS promo, since it was so easy, that even if you never got nothin', it hardly cost anything to begin with. So in that sense, it is like a free gift that you never expected. What's the worry?...
BUT, in keeping with the accurately depicted FT 'stages' or 'phases' that Pudding Guy so eliquently layed out in the very beginning post, many here are (A) beaten down by participating in too many promos that fell way short of their hollow promises, and (B) merely in that phase of the game where it is now time to wonder if "gee, will I-ME actually GET these miles or what?" All OK, I think. NO biggie for US to bust on THEM about it! As heard in the very end of one good Tom Petty Song called EVEN THE LOSERS, "It's just the normal noises in here..." http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gifMM BTW, mine are in the mail and yeah, we shall see! |
I got my cert signed yesterday afternoon. Salesman was quite decent & he said they seen other people yesterday with the certs.
The retailer code is a 4 digit number. Although I don't have a BA account before this, getting 10K points is nice. http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/smile.gif |
The dealer code is in fact a four digit number. I believe that some of the dealers do make copies of the forms because they are probablly billed against a promotion budget for the test drives they did, and this gives them a way to audit what their budget is billed.

I did make copies of the two signed and dealer-coded certificates my wife and I sent in - I figure that's sufficient if BA questions them for some reason.
But I don't blame anyone for taking additional measures - certified mail, etc. I just needed to take issue with them to set up my jokes (which obviously no one got) Anally inserting the certificates - how can you not find that funny? I guess everyone around here is too busy with their banking, lawyering and flying to have a sense of humor. Two points that haven't been addressed here, though: A: Has anyone considered leasing the Jag and, if so, would that qualify for 80,000 miles? The forms say "purchase" at the top and perhaps elsewhere, but there is one line in the purchase form about submitting a "sales contract/lease agreement." B: If you take the test drive and mail in your certificate for the 10,000 points, does this preclude you from acquiring the the 80,000 miles if you actually buy the car? The test drive form states that "this offer may not be combined with any other offer." So does this not mean that someone who buys the vehicle may not get the 80,000 miles if he/she already applied for the 10,000 on the test drive? If I purchased a Jag (which I won't anytime soon) I would be very careful about sending in a test drive certificate... ------------------ jmartin writes a syndicated column and appears regularly at Second City where his stand-up act is a big hit. |

I was persuading my Dad to do it but he thinks it might be a little suspicious if he turns up in an £85k Mercedes S Class to test drive a Jaguar X Type! He said he'd get round that by saying he'd get one for each foot if the salesman asked!
It all went to hell in a hand basket when I read the not so fine print about it being for North American Executive Club members! |
Arrrrrghhhh! My BA miles have not posted yet! It's been 4 days! I think they are ripping me off!!!!

Disclaimer: the previous MileageAddict posting was heavily laden with sarcasm. I don't even plan to worry about these miles posting until early June since the form says to allow 6 to 8 weeks AFTER March 31st.

I went to the same dealer in Brooklyn and the also wanted my BA card and Driver's licence. I did not have the card and I told them that. They were rude at first, but I kept a smile on my face. After five minutes the guy said "what the heck" and signed it. 4 didgit code was used. We have a Brand new 2003 honda which he offered to trade for a Jag (plus a 5 or so grand. seened like a sweet deal). Anyhow, they did xerox my info. |
Car dealers have had some great test drive offers going lately. This has nothing to do with flying, but I saw one here in Orlando - If you go test drive any 2003 Lincoln here in Orlando, then you get a FREE round of golf at The Grand Cypress! That is an awesome course, and typically costs $175/round! Sweet deal for you golfers out there!

Just a reminder that today is the last day to mail in your certificates. They most be postmarked by 3/31/03.

Thanks for the reminder.
Here's a question: Suppose you were going to use 25K British miles to fly Amer. Airlines from Texas to Alaska, trying to stop over in Seattle for a day or two. Using BA miles to fly AA, could you still take advantage of AA's one-stopover feature they have for AAdvantage miles? Or is the stop-over not possible using BA miles to fly on AA?
