The same things happened for me. I have a platinum card.

Tom
Congratulations! I think that's great. Others should do the same, even if they don't then follow through and take advantage of the offer. Let them know that there are a lot of cardholders clamoring for it.

Congratulations to you, too! It seems that it pays to ask, which is a bit surprising.

Does the 15K cap mean you can charge $15000 and receive 15K plus 15K MP points or that 15K MP points is the total you can receive.

You should message Chase and ask that question in order to get an answer you can be 100% certain. I would tell you with 99% confidence, though, that you would get 30K miles in the end, the 15K you get whenever you charge $15K with the card (1 mile/$1) plus a 15K "bonus," that is the double part.

I would encourage people to message Chase for any and all questions, comments, and whatever about double miles for paying taxes with the card, so they will know how much interest there is in this. It would be nice if they stopped the targeting business and made it an offer open to everyone, and if they did away with the cap, as they have done in the past.

But you do make another point, namely that one can't just buy great numbers of miles at will (yes, there is the costly arrangement to buy them from UA at some excessive price) and here is such an opportunity, provided one is going to be making big tax payments one way or another.

That's an excellent point.

As it turns out, the last few times I've wanted to use big rewards (e.g. 2 business class award tickets), I've always been a few thousand short and had to buy some miles. As you note, it's usually quite pricey to buy miles, particularly when you don't need many (given the absurd "processing fees"). So I usually take advantage of the opportunity to get miles when it's easy (i.e. as opposed to doing mileage runs to Asia ) and the "cost" isn't ridiculous. As you note, the cost is also offset by the benefit of getting 25-50 days of float on your funds before you pay the bill, though not too many investments return 30% annually. If you were planning to borrow anyways, then it is even less costly.

With all of the cash rebate credit cards, many people are foregoing 1%-5% cash whenever they use a mileage card. Is that a reasonable CPM?

Foregoing the 1% cash-back so as to get 1 mile/$1 spend is very reasonable, perhaps even compelling. Foregoing 5% cash-back to get a mile for $1 spend is very unreasonable, even absurd, as you imply. Somewhere between those extremes, much closer to one than the other, it might be seen as a toss up.

I submitted my request for the double miles promo used the Chase Message option on the Chase website and asked about the double miles promo stating that as a new cardholder it was the primary reason why I applied. fyi, I didn't mention that I knew the double miles promo was being offered.

So much for my playing dumb...I got a message back telling me there was no double miles offer. Yeah..right.

As with all things UA I'd like to try again for a more positive response.

For those of you who have been successful, which email addy or Department did you contact at Chase?

TIA

I used the Chase message option as well. FWIW, I said that I was going to pay my taxes using a credit card, and had planned to use my Citibank Amex (which is true). I said I had heard they were offering double miles, and that I would pay with the Chase card if that is true (also a true statement). They responded that I now had the double miles offer.

Thumbs down

No luck for me! I made the same request (I have a platinum Visa too) and here's the response:

"Our records indicate your account was not selected for the
2nd 1/4 2008 double miles for tax payments. We can not
force enroll you in the promotion your account had to be
promoted the offer."

I ended up with two Chase cards - not on purpose.

One ( the PLT one that earns EQM's) got the double miles offer. The other got an email with a single miles offer.

I will probably due this to get closer to the 35K spend for 5K more EQMS.

I don't have that care and don't know its T&C, nor those of the offer extended to you. But with the Chase Platinum card while there is no cap on the number of miles one can earn in the course of a year using it, they have put caps on double miles for pay-your-taxes ones, like the 15K cap others have reported with the recent targeted offers to some.

So, do you mean no cap on the double miles opportunity with your Platinum card to pay taxes, or just no cap on the total number of miles you can get at the usual 1 mile for each dollar charged, including the 2.49% "convenience fee" levied by Official Payments?
