And, if I understand it correctly, you cannot 'deduct' that 2.49% amount from next year's taxes as 'tax prep' fees, or 'interest paid'...it's just a fee. So is this really a good method of getting miles/points...or is it just a way to get miles/points that you would not otherwise get and are willing to pay a 'premium' to obtain. (All on the basis that there are no 'bonus miles/points offers, of course.) Thanks for your insights.

This has been discussed many times in the course of this thread. Double miles gives miles at 1.245 cpm or less (when figure in the float one gains), which is a pretty good to excellent, even fabulous deal; ordinary miles gives miles at 2.49 cpm (a bit less with the float factored in), not good, unless one is going to put the miles to a high value use, that is tickets in biz or first, or is just topping off to reach an award level. But you do make another point, namely that one can't just buy great numbers of miles at will (yes, there is the costly arrangement to buy them from UA at some excessive price) and here is such an opportunity, provided one is going to be making big tax payments one way or another.

United Chase Double Miles Targeted?

Is this offer targeted?

Thanks, very interesting.

I have received no email notice of such an offer, and I don't see it where they announced it last year (<www.chasepayyourtaxes.com>). Plus, I see that at the end, it says, "This offer is nontransferable." So, as was hinted, it seems they have decided to go with targeted offers. (Damn them!) And it is not an uncapped proposition, as it was last year, but rather one that only goes up to 15K. (Double damn them!)

Maybe all Chase cardholders should bombard them with "Hey, where's my double miles offer? Why are you discriminating against me? What's wrong, you don't like the money I spend with your card? You like my friend's money more than mine? Why should I pay $140 a year to have this card?"

Have others received this offer with the same 15K cap, a lesser cap, or a greater cap?

I don't know for sure, but there are certainly hints that the target is targeted. Apart from the "nontransferable" language, the main Chase link (as itsme noted) mentions nothing about the double miles offer. However, the equivalent link in the email does show the double miles offer.

Double Mies

I emailed chase as I did not receive the email and will report back.

I think those are more than hints that the offer is a targeted one. In addition to what I noted before in support of that conclusion, I see the link in your email takes you to a Chase "pay your taxes" webpage very similar to the regular page, with the following language added in: "The maximum reward accumulation for this promotion is 15,000 miles...Reward program may be subject to your earnings cap (if applicable)." "Subject to your earnings cap (if applicable"?

So ehlfg, any thoughts about why they might have targeted you for double miles? Have you used your card to pay taxes in the past, perhaps big sums? Do you charge extraordinary sums with the card, or carry big balances, or otherwise allow them to earn a lot from your business? Have you been targeted by Chase with other offers?

I have consistently charged taxes each quarter, but only up to the bonus cap -- never over the cap. I pay off the card in full each month, so I never carry a balance. Nothing stands out in my mind as to why I should have been targeted.

I seem to remember receiving other Chase bonus offers (extra miles for purchases over a certain amount at department stores, etc.), but I don't know if that was unusual.

Received same offer.

I received the same offer today. Same 15,000 cap.

I regularly use my card but have never charged taxes. I also pay the card off every month.

Hmm, I paid my last year's April 15 taxes via my Chase Visa (two cards in fact, totalling around $30K ==> 60K miles in return).

Also tend to have reasonably large balances each month ($5K+) paid off in full every month.

But no targeted offer for me...

.. yet.

Why not message them and ask why you have not received notice of this double miles offer when you know of others who have. Sound huffy, like you may go elsewhere with your business. (Do you have a Platinum Visa or one of the other Signature Visa cards? What cards do those who have been targeted have?)

A few weeks back, I asked about whether the offer would be repeated this year or not, pointing out that I had made use of it before and it was important to me. I was told that I would be given double miles, though I have no other notice of the offer, and no cap was mentioned in the response to me.

This is for the United Airlines card. Is there anything for the Continental card? What about the Chase debit cards that earn miles on UA or CO?

I have the Mileage Plus Platinum Class Visa card.

Double Miles

FYI, I emailed chase and asked if I qualified for the double miles promo even though I did not receive an email. They replied that they will honor the promotion.

I have 2 Chase accounts - one Platinum (that I use often) & one Business (that I used to get sign-up points only). I received the double points e-mail this AM for the BUSINESS account only.....

I called chase and within moments he was reading the spiel about how it was targeted, no way to force targeting, details of the promo, card type didn't matter, etc. It was clear he was providing info specific to this promo with the 15K max. If you're not targeted I doubt you'll get it...

SPG Amex rep after intensive research also reported "nothing" for any of the card types I held. She said she found one but it was on the Delta Amex.
