Anyone know if I can pay a single tax bill with two Amex cards via Official Payments? Contacted them via their web page four days ago. No response.

Since official payments charges a straight percentage, I think if you make 2 different payments to same account you can accomplish the same thing.

Thanks. That's what I'm hoping (large tax bill and mile/point wise it's best for me to spread it around). I have to wait until Monday morning to talk to a live person there . . . that oughta be fun! I'm guessing an hour on hold.

Even 3 different cards. I have done it in the past.

Great! :D I have a couple of heavy min spends from recent approvals, plus would like to get the 15k bonus for PRG 30k annual spend. All this will work out perfectly!

Am I thinking this through correctly?

I'm a relative newbie here.

Taxes due today. We owe $15,912 today for state and federal, plus $15,943 in estimated taxes over the course of the year for a total of $31,855.

If I pay the entire amount with my new Chase Explorer Visa (CL will handle the payment due today, fyi), I'll pay $602 in fees.

We itemize, and our misc expenses exceed the 2%, so after tax, the fee would effectively be $392. (Am I doing this correctly???)

I'd earn 31832 United miles for the payments, plus I'd exceed the $25,000 level and would receive a 10,000 mile bonus for a total of 41,832 miles for $391.

This is well under a penny a mile and seems worth doing.

Is there any better bonus from a Visa or Mastercard? I'd get 7% bonus from Chase Sapphire, and I could get MQM from US Air but I'm not going to get much from status.

Thanks for any input.

Edited to add: sorry I just realized this was not the ideal thread. I was thinking of "bonus" differently than the OP of this thread. If desired, move this to the "paying taxes with credit card" type thread where I should have put it. I know that i should not repost so I won't do that.

fyi...if you're in the US, taxes are not due today. They're due on 4/17. You can thank Emancipation Day (a holiday only in Washington, DC) for that.

If only that extra day gave me enough time to get the Chase BA card. i could have hit that 20K spend for the extra 50K Avios with no trouble. Regret.
