-Must be a true road warrior.
I have purchased a few bonds here and there for the kids. Not too many, since over the long haul equities are your best bet.
Disregarding investment philosophies, if you do purchase over the net, purchase toward the end of the month. Interest is based on the first of the month that the bond was sold, regardless.
E.g., my card (1st USA Visa with SWA tie-in) closes on the 20th. Hence, just purchase the bonds on the 22nd, get interest from the first, and you do not have to pony up the $ out of your MMA for another 45 days.
Were it not for the 3 month penalty for early redemption; one could see some real possibilities in the above approach with a perpetual rollover scenario.

I apologize for my broken Spanish. This reminds me of my daily "talks" with the guy who comes in to clean the office. He speaks no English and I know just enough Spanish to get in trouble.
He always wears a hat, and then one day he didn't wear it. So I asked him Donde esta tu cabeza?
I meant to say Donde esta su sombrero? (where is your hat?), but what I actually said was literally "where is your head?"
And yes, that means about the same thing in Spanish as in English. It like saying what the helll are you thinking or rebuking someone for doing something stupid.
Anyway I think "Road with God" is appropriate for FlyerTalk. I also could have said "Visita con Dios" (visit with God), Vola con dios (fly with God), but I'll just say Viaja con Dios (travel with God)

I also would like the upside down question mark!

You can also use the HTML escape codes iexcl and iquest (put an & before and a ; after, no spaces).

I always heard that you need Bonds to diversify your porfolio, currently all my investments are in stocks and maybe it's time for me to use my AA card to get some Bonds
So in theory, you can be invested and be a Million Miler in no time!

Maybe not quite a million miler; I believe that there is a cap of $30k per year (face amount) per person for U.S. Savings bonds.
As to bonds diversifying a portfolio, yes this is true. Strictly speaking bonds in that context refer to debt instruments, presumably via a mutual fund. But, 'tis true that these are debt instruments of Los Estados Unidos, hence they would round out a portfolio, too.
Personally speaking, I only purchase a few bonds here and there for the kids. Equities just make too much sense over the long haul. But, the kids get to see and hold the U.S. Savings bonds and this makes the money more tangible to them.

Yes, it is a legit Government website, and it functions just as described here.
They are willing to sell you the bonds via your credit card without a commission or any fee at all.
It's not a scam. It's worth it to them. If you keep the bonds then everybody comes out ahead. If you sell them in less than 5 years, you eat (just over) 1 percent interest. Probably the Feds have arranged to pay Visa et al no more than that for the merchant's fee.
It's good to be skeptical when the math doesn't work out, but in this case the numbers do make sense.
If it suits your investment needs, keep the bonds. If it doesn't, cash them in after 6 months and the mileage will have cost you just over a peny, which is a fine deal.

The website noted above is NOT a U.S. Government website just because it says .gov at the end. What the hell is the Bureau of the Public Debt anyway? This is a complete scam.
This just smells funny all the way around. </font>

Why are you talking when you have nothing to say worth hearing? You do some research!!
I am disappointed by people like you who state something as if they had some knowledge. On this issue you are all wet and do a disservice to all on this board by amking you post.
Not only is this legit, a government direct purchase, but a darn good investment. Time will show that the return on these will hold up to most anything else when adjusted for risk.
PLUS ff miles.
