I'm surely not alone in making purchases at the website, getting an email confirmation, and receiving the bonds in the mail a couple of weeks later. The charges show up on my credit card statement as from "BPD/US Savings Bonds..." BPD = Bureau of Public Debt, a bona fide government bureau. It also issues the 1099 interest forms to you if you have a Treasury Direct account for other US notes and bonds.
