I think the question was asked about the USAirways Visa Signature from Bank of America, $90/yr.

I believe, but am not certain, that Centurion gives you Platinum on CO. I know they give you SPG Platinum. Centurion is technically by invitation only, but you can request an invitation if you spend more than $150k over 12 months on your Amex cards.

How exactly did the poster get HH status just by being a AA Plat. I would be most interested in that.

(BTW - my Starwood Amex is a platinum card which I had not even noticed until once a cashier pointed it out).
That is true but it is not the Centurian Platinum, thus don't associate the
benefits of the CP with the *Wood AE Platinum card.

The US version of Centurion gives you Gold status only. It may be different with an overseas version of the card, but I don't know.

Obviously you haven't been in the AmEx forum, where it's all Centurion, all the time

AA had a deal a couple years ago for elites (at least platinum and up, not sure about gold) where you could call HH and give them a code and be given elite status for a year.

Not sure if they're still doing it.

I received HH Gold status as a result of being AA Platinum. I had to go to an HHonors.com link and enter a 4-digit code which was printed in the AA Platinum booklet. One year, I don't think this was targeted at all (maybe '01 or so). Anybody could get the status. Note that during '01-'02, there were dozens of easy ways to get HH Gold and a mountain of bonus points, so it wasn't exactly an "exclusive" perk.

I also received SPG Gold as a result of AA Plat. I got a direct mail piece with SPG Gold and AA Platinum branding on it, brand-new SPG number. I called SPG and had them merge my new number with my old one. I recall that I was required to keep the new number active to keep the Goldness. I was also required to complete 1 stay where I earned AA miles directly, then I was allowed to switch to Starpoints. Seemed like kind of an odd promo with odd rules, but I didn't complain.

Scandinavian Airlines

It was possible to become an SAS Gold (Star Alliance) by only staying at SAS Radisson hotels. I used to push my Gold mile requirement by flying a bit and staying a lot. The rest of the stays involved flying oneworld. Ah, the days of five top tier cards. Not sure if it still works as I fly Ryanair or BA to Scandinavia off London and avoid SAS.

If your company is enrolled in AA's Business ExtrAA program, one of the options for using points is to designate employees for Gold AAdvantage status. This has nothing to do with how much they do or don't fly. (You wouldn't want to waste the points on someone who flies enough to earn it on his/her own.)

BTW, when I was involved with it, crediting flights to Biz ExtrAA was an incredible hassle so we never did it, but I understand things have improved since. In any case, it doesn't get in the way of earning regular individual miles; you can do both.

Well, as a matter of fact it is still a hassle: as far as I know, you have to mention your Biz ExtrAA acct. number before purchasing the ticket. I found that it is nearly impossible to get credit for a flight after you have purchased the ticket. Also, you are basically tied to buying the ticket on aa.com or with a travel agent. If you are a startup, like us, that means no other online options when booking your tickets.

Aside from that, I think it is a waste to pay 1000 business points to get Gold status (you earn 1 point / $10 you spend on eligible tickets -- this means you have to pay $10,000 for Gold, so you get the idea). Also, international one-way upgrades are only 1200 points, which seems to me like a much better deal.

About half of your information is wrong. You should spend some time on the Amex board to find out which half.
