Thanks. That's enough to kill any interest I might otherwise have had. (Of course, even if they had an uncapped double miles for tax payments offer this year, it would be no guarantee they would have one next year. Chase it seems did not repeat its 2007 uncapped offer, and SPG Amex did not repeat even its 5K capped 2007 offer.)

New US Airways Club members get 3,000 Preferred-qualifying miles when you buy a US Airways Club membership between May 6, 2008 and July 31, 2008.

This offer has been extended into 2009.

With the US Virgin Atlantic Black American Express from Bank of America, you get one tier point per $2,500 in purchases (maximum of 2 per month). So up to 24 tier points per annum - after 15 you get Silver status with Flying Club (although given Virgin Atlantic aren't a member of an alliance yet, it's not of that much use unless you are based in London or travel to London frequently).

Just wondering on some of the possibilities that may still exist. I am currently doing clublive for miles and at around 50k for my AA account and 80k for my delta account (miles) and wondering if it is still possible to get status from these miles? I strongly doubt that I will be anywhere near the 1million mark for AA by the time CL dies (I can only dream) but are those the only levels? Does Delta give status at something lower as I have been using them more (currently at 120k or so)?

thanks

Problems Understanding how to Confer Status

In the opening post of this thread, it was stated that a Gold or Platinum Worldperks member can confer the status on another adult member with the same address. I contacted the Worldperks line and they were not aware of this. I read the program rules and did not see any reference, but easily could have missed the specific section it was in.

Has anyone successfully done this?

Could someone help me out with the process or with a reference that I could give the Worldperks agents so that they could look up the process?

Thanks in advance.

Try calling back again. Maybe that one rep had no clue what they were talking about.

I wasn't aware of this until you pointed it out. Does this mean that if I'm Platinum, I can make my son Platinum too (with full benefits) simply by asking? Can it be done with one family member or several? Seems a bit too good to be true. Lastly - what is expected to happen with this with the merger now in place as the DL and NW programs consolidate? Will DL elites be able to do the same thing?

Doubt you can make your son full Platinum. UA people are (were?) able to confer a limited elite status on one other person, colloquially referred to around here as 3P (I believe the official term was Premier Associate), which received a very limited number of benefits and was, of course, behind the other three standard elite levels (well, four if you include GS) in priority. I'd assume NW has/had a similar program.

NW Visa Platinum

NW Visa Platinum offers 10,000 status miles for $25,000 in charges, and another 10,000 status miles for another $25,000 in charges. This is in addition to the non-status miles for each expenditure.

It will be interesting to see whether this arrangement survives the merger with Delta. My guess is that it won't.

Why would you guess that it won't? Delta has a similar card!

Virgin Atlantic Amex

Virgin Atlantic Amex offers one tier point for each $2500 in charges. That works out to $2500 in charges for "red" status, $37,500 for "silver" status, and $100K for "gold" status.

Not quite - see my post #184 in this thread. Tier points are capped at 2 a month ($5,000 spend) for a maximum of 24 per year. You can get to Silver but won't be able to get to Gold status on this one without flying.

Also, Red status is automatic when you join, no tier points are required - http://www.virgin-atlantic.com/en/us...fits/index.jsp
