Looks like USA Today might be doing a story on this. Just got an e-mail from a USA Today reporter about my posting in this thread on the issue of FF miles being eliminated for these fares. Hopefully this will bring some competitive pressure to bear on NW to reinstate miles for these e-fares.

Yes, here it is:

No miles for discounted Internet fares. This fall, Northwest Airlines stopped awarding miles for its special CyberSavers discount fares. Those last-minute fares are announced each week and must be purchased online.

Northwest says it is trying to keep its CyberSavers cheap and competitive.

Business traveler Ron Falk of Grand Rapids, Mich., a top-level member of Northwest's WorldPerks program, says he won't be flying Northwest often next year....

I avoid NW like the plague. Actually, NW is a plague. I fully expect them to be duct-taping the old 727s together by 2005.

A friend of mine who lives in the Twin Cities and is NW something-or-other elite has stated that she was told the issue was "competition with Sun Country, which doesn't issue miles."

I always thought Stun Country used a punch system like WN to assign X number of trips=ooh, a freebie!

I'm going to point out my displeasure, too, namely that as a CO customer, they're costing CO loyal business, and i really think they SWORE that they wouldn't do that back when this merger was supposed to be good for us.

NW and KLM, now that's a deservedly abusive marriage. (Maybe they shoulda gotten to Canadian before AC did.) But Continental is going to start suffering due to NW's continuous string of stupid decisions like these.

Even UA didn't think this up first.
