You can probably blow them away on Priceline (ugh) if you don't care about miles and just want to get from XXX to YYY for as little as possible. Who knows, Priceline might even sell you a CyberFares ticket for less than NWA if you wait long enough to submit your bid, as doubtless the interest in mile-less CyberSavers will decline sharply.

You should be also be aware of the unfavorable changes that DL is instituting and imposing on its FF'ers in Skymiles.

There is also a brand new website at
www.saveskymiles.com

Take a look and see if you may want to be a part of the ongoing efforts to try to reverse
these DL changes. Changes at one carrier now are very likely to be cahnges in another soon!

Why did they do this now?

Well....
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum35/HTML/000837.html

And at the same time - a huge push to enroll new members!
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum35/HTML/000879.html

FWIW, as noted previously, if you all accept this change and keep on flying NWA, nothing else will happen - that's positive that is!

That's not to preclude further cuts/restrictions of course!

Thanks DOC for the urging. All FF's who fly Delata should visit Saveskymiles.com and join. As a retired FF almost 1M with Delta I agree wholeheartedly.:mad

Never flown NW, but will send a message out of general principles.

BTW, will history repeat itself?

BA stopped giving miles on cheap tikets a few years ago and look where they are now: from "the world's favorite airline" to "I scorned away my economy customer and can't make a profit".

(And I'm not saying that because the Executive Club is busy ignoring me...)

A thought from FlyingRev about NWA and responses for your weekend!

..."they are laughing at some of the threats some have made"...

"May I just suggest that the revenue they will miss from some of you (the couple of hundred dollars airfare) is not profitable for them when you factor in the FF mile expense. I have a very good friend of mine here in Memphis who works for NW and she tells me that they are laughing at some of the threats some have made. They are catering the business market first (along with the corporate partners.) The leisure travelers and those who are looking to cherry pick the lowest fares will have to understand that the miles will not be offered. In other words, they cannot afford to give 11,000 miles for european trip (then double the miles for status bonus - bringing almost the total needed for a domestic roundtrip.)

'It is a cost analysis they made and they are going to stand by it.

This is what I am told.'

-FlyingRev"

Speaking to a marketing consultant (in another unrelated area) at a meeting the other day, he remarked to me that essentially with loads in the .80's they will do as they like for the time being!

I have also shared my thoughts with NW Customer Service on this issue. I should hope this does not become precendent-setting for other airlines to follow.

So regardless of the amount you may or may not fly on NWA, please let 'em know what you think of them not awarding elite mileage (or 'airline mileage') for their CyberSavers nor e-savers fares.

So now in addition to the previous changes that produced increased difficulties obtaining TA & TP UG's and the new lost mileage earning opportunities at NWA, we have the DL SWU problem and the resulting SaveSkymiles campaign:
http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum21/HTML/001505.html

Now a seemingly burgeoning need is developing for a similar campaign regarding One Pass & CO also, who have arguably been in the process of altering their rules as well making UG's more difficult to obtain particularly for lower level elites Gold & Silver!

http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/Forum20/HTML/001509.html

We need to all be very cognizant, IMHO, of possible unfavorble changes in each of the other programs FF benefits. Often they are unannounced too!

I'd again urge all of the FT'er program members to support each of the other program members currentl "under seige" inasmuch as the carriers will do whatever they feel that they can get away with!

It's only a question of time 'til it affects you!

According to Ed Perkins, former editor of Consumer Reports Travel Letter, there is even more reason to be concerned about this issue: http://www.smarterliving.com/columns/ed/20001109.html

CAUTION!!! It IS a trend!

Posted at nwa.com - fly to selected European cities this weekend from MSP or DTW for around $290 (after tax).

Yet the rules in VERY FINE PRINT state that there actually is NO WP mileage credit!

Please do NOT do a year end mileage run only to be dissapointed and be very careful with your NWA ticket purchases- if you are after any mileage & status earning opportunities!

I sent my comment into Northwest via the Website. Just from the Web design they seem mired in bureaucracy (be sure to send to the right department, fill out all the required fields, etc.). Maybe they think this is still the 70s.

They probably think the CyberSavers are such great deals that we're just being greedy for expecting to earn miles, too. I reminded 'em that without miles, they're on roughly the same competitive footing as Priceline. Maybe worse, since with Priceline you can pick your dates.

well, I sent in my complaint and made it very clear that they have lost my personal travel business to United. unfortunately my employer has a deal with NW and I'm officially required to fly on NW or its partners, unless the fare difference is greater than $XXX. pbbth!

Sent in my comments and pointed out that desireability of cyberfares will be reduced when no credit is given. Point of cyber fares is for people to do spur of the moment unneeded trips. Getting miles clinches it. Now it will take a much cheaper fare to convince me to take "unneeded" spur of the moment cyberfares.
