Mileage Run IAD to anywhere
Anyone know of a good mileage run ticket from IAD to anywhere. I need 2400 miles total to hit 1K again, and really would like to do it within a day. Looking at DEN, but still at 348 for the day, that is not good for a true mileage run story. Thanks for the tips, best

IAD-MIA $232.50 and you can be home before dinner
My test at http://www.ual.com was 12/5-12/5. Connection at ORD on the way down and non-stop back. Approximately 2700 miles.
Hint: Look for any AirTran compete routes, specifically Florida destinations.

If you need a quick same day run (leave 9am back by 2 pm), try IAD - SHD (Staunton, VA - 90 miles from IAD).
The fare is $86.00 with only a 3 day advance purchase (United Express).
You will even have a view of the of the Shenendoah mountains through the front of the aircraft. Neat if you can be seated in first class section - seat 1b.

Sheryl-
Good catch on the IAD - TPA run. Just curious on how you figured the mileage. I am showing 810 non stop miles so for the round trip it's 1,620.
If you go IAD-ORD-TPA ($190.00 - 14 day adv.)and back the same day, the total mileage is 3,202.
Good deal if you must have 3,200 miles or 4 segments and have a day to blow.

chix, connection at ORD on the way down and non-stop back. Yes, it does require a 14 day advance purchase. I chose 12/5.
I just remembered the deals the airlines are offering for 11/24 travel, so I'm checking a few of those out, but haven't found anything better than what I posted above so far.

This drives me crazy!!!! UA fliers are so egocentric...The world does not revolve around UA! The poster does not even mention which airline they need a mileage run for, just a mention of 1K. Most of the world does not know what a 1k is or that they fly UA. Could this perhaps be better answered in the UA forum? I realize the UA is the biggest...But more total people fly other airlines. I'm done ranting...I think I'll lie down before my head explodes
I edited this, to add an adition. nmenaker is a new poster and I don't want them to think i'm picking on them. The problem with typing is you can't get a feel for tone. I mean this post as a "gee wiz, sacrastic" poke at UA flyers (since all the flyertalkers I meat seem to ALL fly UA). They all use UA JARGON everwhere and never realize the rest of the world doesn't understand them!

cigarman -
Relax. You are correct. I posted the suggestion because 1k was mentioned so it was obvious the FF wanted UA info.
If the flyer did not mention UA, I probably would not reply as I don't know any cheap runs on US, AA, CO, etc.

You know as well as I do that it's only a matter of time before the rest of the world is flying UA also!
I believe the phrase is "Resistance is futile" (could be the new UA motto)

Cigarman: Geez, what's with the inferiority complex?!?!?!
You already convinced me that I am a fool for staying with UA as a 100,000 mile flyer. And what CO has do to you/for highest tier flyers should have me flying thru Newark. But I am a happy fool.
So relax, smoke a Habana (or even a Blunt
)for me and remember, sometimes a mileage run is just a mileage run

Cigarman does not have an inferiority complex at all. He is generally logical and informative, albeit a bit combative at times.
Right now however, it seems to me that he is just wound too tight. He flew about 37 segments in October and god only knows how many so far in November and I guess that kind of schedule has caused him to let things like not having his OnePass statement on time get him very upset (see the CO boards). As usual, his point is valid in reference to the United fliers, many of whom actually don't realize that someone like him probably has about a 99.9% free upgrade percentage with CO and NW.

One thing that Continental doesn't have is 4% of flights canceled due to labor problems.

O.k., everyone:
This is not a "bash Cigarman" thread nor is it a "UA vs. CO" thread. We all know that all the airlines/programs have their good & bad points although the UA vs. CO thing does have a sort of David vs. Goliath feel to it.
Airline loyalty aside, thanks to cigarman I was able to find a good way to make my 1K status in a single day for a decent price which got me upgrades for the DUS trip! C-man, you may fly CO but I guess you're alright anyway!
