- Through newspaper-miles for 39 weeks (M-Sa delivery) for 2900 miles

A couple of questions for the experts. First, isn't a standard print subscription Monday-Saturday now (with the WeekendJournal on Saturdays)? Would the M-F be mistake? Second, does anyone know if either include the online edition as well or if this is truly JUST the print edition?
Why burn miles when you can get it free? Haven't paid for the WSJ in years.

Heads Up...
I burned 2900 from my US account for WSJ for MomDad.
The order was confirmed, the miles deducte.

Then the order was cancelled in an e-mail saying
cancel because they are not New Subscribers,
and they wont give the 2900 miles back,
because they are not refundable.

That, to put it gently, sucks. How many weeks were your parents supposed to see in return for the 2900 miles you burned on their behalf? While you won't be given the miles back, would they allow you to redesignate the giftee? Are your parents current subscribers or is it that they were subscribers at sometime in the past? (If I do it, I think I'll use my mother-in-law's different last name to have it delivered to my address.)

How long between when you requested it and you were advised that your parents wouldn't be getting the paper, but your miles weren't coming back to you? Did you do it through the USAir website?

Sadly, kinda dead.

You need to take the surveys and type up reviews now, so not totally gone, just more effort than before.

Still a better deal than others listed in this thread.

Does anyone know if the WSJ subscription with miles comes with digital access as well.

It does. However, the digital subscription is for the true time of the subscription, versus the newspaper version, which can be put on hold to extend it.

Dans Deals has a link to a 39 week subscription. Follow the instructions he posts and you will be subscribed in under 1 minute.

technically, I'm not sure this is correct as I know many people still managing their subscription from 2008 (print/digital) putting the print one on "suspend" each time, extending all digital access.

So basically at the end of the 39 weeks you suspend the print but the digital continues indefinitely?

While in some parts paying for the paper may be heresy , there are vendors on EBay selling nine month subscriptions for sometimes as little as $25. The price is intended as a promo for new subscribers, but can be an outlet for renewals with a little effort.

Once the nine month teaser rate expires, many EBay sellers will sell you a new nine month contract, although the name on the account will have to change. I'm in my third subscription this way, with the second being in my wife's maiden name, and the most recent one in my cat's name.

Search: "WALL STREET JOURNAL PRINT & DIGITAL NINE" on EBay for examples of current deals.

At that kind of price point, messing around with freebie professional subscriptions or using miles (unless orphans) may not be worth the effort.

more involved

I think it is a bit more involved than that. And waiting till the end probably doesn't work.

It's more like get print/online sub, setup account, setup digital access.

1. SUSPEND PRINT (which can only be suspended for 2-3 months)
2. enjoy digital
3. PRINT RESUMES (after above period ends)
4. Go back to #1, repeat as necessary

Thanks. Are there any similar tricks for the Economist?

Do what I posted in 219. In under 1 minute, you will have a feree 9 month subscription.

Or I'll be happy to do it for you if you pay me $20.

Bet this is what the eBay guys are doing and pocketing all the money.
