I talked to a Citi f/i representative last week regarding my missing 5000 miles. He said by June 26, we should see our miles. In addition, to appologize for the delay, we will be getting an additional 500 miles. I haven't see any miles in my account as of today. We will see.

For what it is worth:

called today. Code NP for 5k AA is valid through 6/30. Thus must download application and postmark by 30th.

How knows?

Also, says that they will put through as a "purchase" for CC, but said that they cannot determine whether or not your CC reads it as an advance of purchase...???What? Said to ask your cc issuer: duh, they say that if it is listed as purchase then comes as purchase; determined by Citifi, not us...

FINALLY, hopefully my last posting on this issue: citi f/i ("Gee, didn't we call you back????") says it put thru the AA mileage "last week". I'll supposedly be getting 2K upfront, and 1K each month for 3 months, credited in the usual "6-8weeks". No requirement that my account be "active" (ie: pay bills, etc., out of my pitiful $505, including interest).

This has been quite an ordeal. I suppose occasional units of 5K miles are worth it, but man, it's a close call. Offset the miles against the heartburn, well, maybe not.

This is unbelievable. I am now being told that money market accounts are NOT eligible for the promotion. They CLAIMED to have called me in May to tell me this. This is the most incredible promotion I have ever heard of - and I bank at Citibank. They will invesatgate it again. WHY would a reputable organization offer a promotion like this and then procede to alienate people.
P.S. I though I would try again to track down the correct code and found someone reasonable who told me the code should have been B12 not C2. He told me he would take care of it and it could take 8 weeks for AA to post. I will keep you posted. You might be having the same problem - the wrong code for the kind of account opened. Good luck to you and me.

Well the saga continues for me too. About 6 weeks ago I was told that there had been some problems, but they would definately be posting miles to my AAdvantage account by the 26th of June at the latest. No such luck, so I called again today. Now it seems they have information from me (NOT) that I signed up for a promotion that gives me $50.00 for opening a checking account in February. I informed the CSR I never would have even opened an account at Citi f/i if it had'nt been for the 5000 miles promotion and that I don't want the money, just the miles. (They had by the way put $50.00 in my account 3 or 4 months ago, for no apparent reason at all, although it did seem to coincide with flyers arriving with my statement each month that touted this particular promotion)
I'm waiting for the next call back from the CSR........ This is indeed maddening!

Gee, I had no problem getting 5,000 miles for a $1,000 account I opened back in December. I had originally planned to close it after six months, but decided the convenience of using it for free foreign ATM withdrawals was worthwhile. Sole problem is that they charged $5/month for checking below a certain balance; when I pointed out the $1,000 sitting in money market they linked the two and reversed the month they had charged; no charges in the three months since. I'm a happy camper (banker).

Contrast this with E-Trade. I responded to a promotion for 5,000 Mileage Plus miles, and included my MP account # with my application. After six months, no miles; took two phone calls and an e-mail. Then I referred my mom: 5,000 miles for each of us. Same story on her account, and I'm currently phoning for my 5,000 miles. This despite the fact the e-mail promotion they sent her included a link to my referral #. E-Trade seems good at promising great deals, and must figure that 90% of people will forget about it / not pursue it if E-Trade just forgets their end of the bargain.

Guess which accounts will get closed as soon as the miles post?!

End of the Tale, at last, for me: 5,000 miles posted today from citi f/i. Tally: 6 os+12 days. 8 phone calls. My estimate: 6 hours, 24 gaviscons.

Has anybody tried openening a second account and funding it with a CC after opening 1 account. In other words, open a checking account one month, then go back and open a money market the next?

steffo, ive done it a few times at $10,000 per money mkt acct that pays 5.85%. One cant add to an existing acct but they allow you to have more than 1 IMMA,once opened go on-line and you can transfer 1 acct into another, this way you get to fund it w/a cc. Also if you have probs with it just open a joint acct again no limit.

A few days ago, I got a call at 6:15 AM CST (from NY where it was 7:15AM)(good thing I don't live in California. In any case I was told they researched my account, and in order to get the 5000 they would have to deduct the $50 deposited into my account. Apparently, from above posts, they have done this quite a bit - depositing $50 instead of giving 5000 and claiming that was the promo signed up for.
Needless to say, I haven't seen the miles yet.

Anybody used a United First USA card to make the opening deposit? First USA charged me something like a $5 fee for the $100 I pulled off my card at the MGM Grand in Vegas last year; when I called to complain about it, they said it was a "quasi-cash" transaction. Never had that problem before using a Citibank card..

Reason I ask is that citi/fi screwed up my opening cc deposit at the end of May. They opened the account but never got my Click-citi card charged, which would have been good for double miles. Asked them in June to try it again, but they didn't for some reason. Now they wanted me to mail in a form they faxed me that I had to sign, authorizing the charge (because they couldn't find the original)..so I sent in two forms, one for $5000 on the Citibank AA and one for $5000 on the UA First Card. And I'm hoping they both go through as charges...

George3,

BE VERY CAREFUL. I got the same form, and it was stated very clearly that some banks will treat the charge as a cash advance. This would mean a heft cash advance fee, huge interest charges until you pay it off, and no miles!

I've used American Express to open my account and it posted as a purchase, not as a cash transaction.

I tried the same with my NW Visa (USBank) and it processed as a cash advance - and was therefore denied by my bank !!

BTW, I got a $100 sign-up bonus, so don't accept the $50 offer. The miles or the hundred, I say !
